Lightning Trap

In the ice labrynth(sp?) in TotSC, there is a trap I can't get past. After you kill the first group of 3 mages, if you take the top right path, the one leading eventually to the quest item, there are three traps before you reach the next mage to fight. The first trap I keep getting rid of by accidentally triggering it. Not a big deal, just magic missiles. Viconia easily heals Coran after she triggers it. However, I can't get past the second trap. Viconia finds it with her Find Traps spell, but neither of my thieves are able to disarm it, often setting it off when attempting to, which unleashes a lightning bolt. I tried just having someone trigger it, but even if they survive the lightning bolt, the trap is still there. How do I get past it???

IIRC a large amount of the traps on the BG games have a small edge that it is possible to walk a character past, if you go to the very edge of the trap with one character and then walk that one character across the edge of the trap, you8 might be able to traverse it. Just a theory and a bit cheesy, worth trying though
You have buffed your characters with master thievery etc i imagine
You oculd also find one of the specific thiefs like skie who might be more adept at disarming th traps.

I thought I had a potion of Master Thievery, but I found that I had sold it...
Thanks for the help, I'll see if I can get past that trap now.

What's cheesy about stepping over traps? If you were playing PnP, would you just accept a trap being there and consciously set it off?
Now, if your characters haven't discovered the trap and you send them around it, that's another story.

I guess that'll teach you for not having a single-classed thief.

What makes you think I don't have a single classed thief? My thieves are Imoen and Coran. Unlike some people, I have not dualled Imoen, so she is still a single class thief.

Potion of master thieviery don't help with traps, do u have potion of percetion? My thief having about 80% disarm traps and deal with that trap after 1 dose. Or have you tried potion of absorption?

Potion of Absorbtion wouldn't help if the trap remains after being set off.

I just got a potion of perception. One thing I noticed, and this is probably my problem, is I've focused more on pick pocketing and lock picking skills when leveling up Imoen and didn't do much in the way of find/disarm traps. Is the potion of perception cumulative. If you drink more than one will it increase your skills more?

Yes it will. Personally, with my single-classed thief I ignored pickpocketing completely, since it isn't essential for playing or completing the game. Before I dualled Imoen I poured all her thief points into pickpocketing, so the could handle that while I did the important stuff.

Ah, well, I played IWD before BG and in IWD, I would pickpocket shop owners and sell the items back to them. Thus, in BG, I also focused on the pickpocketing skill.
