Hello all,

I was wondering if there was a website I could purchase this game from via download. Does this work on Windows 7 ?

Please let me know either way. Thank you.

That's a little tricky. Interplay lost the AD&D rights to this game a year ago. The current owner, Infogrames, doesn't have any plans to make it available. To make things worse, if one is to believe internet rumour it seems that the rights to Planescape material is currently being held by another party, and nothing will happen unless these two forces meet in battle.

I think it is unlikely to see daylight on a download service, unless PST 2 sees the day. That will probably never happen, unless Bethesda Softworks if capable of even stranger things than I gave them credit for during the Fallout '3' release.

Babbling aside, I think you're better off finding a hard copy.

Hello again,

Thanks for the time answering my question. There is a DvD rom copy on eBay at the moment, is this the version that I want to purchase or the four disc release from 1999. Basically, which one would be the best hard copy to purchase for my Windows 7?

I am not certain. I got the collection DVD myself and it hasn't failed me yet. Maybe another member knows more about this.

I haven't played it on Windows 7. For tips on installing it and making it work, see: http://thunderpeel2001.blogspot.com/200 ... odded.html

Planescape: Torment WILL work on Windows 7 without any problems.

So I purchased the DvD-Rom single disc version and it uploaded fine but now crashes early in the game (still in the hive) and I'm using Windows 7, any ideas? It happens every time I try to enter a location/door or move into a different area. It says on the error box: An assertion failed in F: Torment/Source/baldur/InfGame.cpp at line number 6241 - wtf does that mean?

Essentially what that error message means is that the event that occurred on that particular line didn't come true.

Try playing this game using compatibility mode.

I think that the problem is caused by something added to the downloadable version, as no such file or directory exists in my game.

What's strange is that the "baldur" part is a clear reference to Baldur's Gate and should not be within the PST directory (normally).

(how do I use compatibility mode?)
(I didn't download anything)

Not trying to sound ignorant.

Is there a patch to be downloaded that could potentially help?

Also, how do I make the screen resolution wider?

If you right click on the game's icon, you will get a window titled "Torment Properties". At the top, you should see multiple tabs. Choose the one titled "Compatibility", it should be the third one.

After that, check the box that reads "Run this program in compatibility mode for:" and then select the mode from the drop-down menu. That last part, try playing around with it. In theory, Windows 98/Me should work.

As far as I know, no such patch exists.

In order to play the game in widescreen mode, you would need to install the "Widescreen Mod", provided here.

K, game works fine now but I can't seem to get the widescreen to install correctly, anyone else have another link to it?

What happens when you try to install it?

That link provides you with the right version of the mod.

You have to do a full install, and install the patch (you can get it here)

You also need Ghostdog's PS:T UI from here

To make a full install:

Copy the contents of the DVD to your hard drive, to the root of the drive that contains the game is the way I did it. I put mine on my E: Drive for example.

You then have to change the Torment.ini file (it resides in the C:\Program Files\Black Isle\Torment\ folder by default) which has a section that looks like this

HD0:=Y:\Program Files\Black Isle\Torment
CD1:=X:\CD1\
CD2:=X:\CD2\
CD3:=X:\CD3\
CD4:=X:\CD4\
CD5:=X:\CD5\

where Y = the letter of the drive where the game is installed and X = the letter of your DVD Drive

Change the DVD drive letter to the letter that represents the drive where the game is installed

for me it reads:

HD0:=e:\Program Files\Black Isle\Torment
CD1:=e:\CD1\
CD2:=e:\CD2\
CD3:=e:\CD3\
CD4:=e:\CD4\
CD5:=e:\CD5\

Note, CD1 is actually the folder that the loose files from the DVD are, there isn't actually a folder called CD1

I hope that my description isn't too convoluted and confusing.

Remember to install Big's Widescreen Mod before Ghostdog's

I certainly find the game far more injoyable in widescreen. I'd forgotten how bad 648x400 or whatever it is was.

Word of warning, the G3 Tweak pack doesn't work with either the patched DVD version with the widescreen mods, or maybe either.
