Durlags Tower - Trying to get back through level 2

Arg! I finished level 2 of Durlags Tower, so I thought I'd nip back to the surface and clear out my inventory. On returning though I can't figure out how to get back through the level to the level stairs. I've got as far as getting myself into the room that's directly to the right of your start, however every other door is shut, and I cant seem to progress.

Help!

Hmm, it's been awhile, but you'll have to play with the sparring dummies and the statues to the south again to get the door to the north to open. You can then manipulate the switches in that one room through the wall.... Enough playing around with them ought to open all the doors you need again.

There should be a wall with a number of switched on it, I'm not sure but I think you need to manipulate them the right way to open all the neccessary doors.

It took me quite a while to figure it out the first time, in my next games I just used Ctrl+J to teleport me to the stairs.
