Lord of the Rings

As we all know, Lord of the Rings opened up in theatres across the nation on Wednesday. I'm actually surprised that no one has posted about it yet! I've been in many different chatboard, and they all have a LotR thread. So, I guess I am the person to do so. I'd like to know your thoughts and impressions of the movies, as would everyone else! I will assume that all of us have read the books.
Now, the first I'd like to congratulate the LotR team is the lack of special effects. Most of the time, S-FX are designed to pull attention. As we all know, Tolkien wrote in a sense of not alot of "Whoo-haa" wizzie stuff. The fireworks were about it. I enjoyed the movie very much.
My favourite character was Legolas. As posted in a different board, Legolas is a badass in the movie. I love it!!
I know this is a BG board, but I'm still curious!!

i liked the film. i had reservations about the changing of the language and a few other issues, but, on the whole, the film was visually amazing. the acting was nice and the plot moved right along. the only problems that i really saw was devoting too much unneeded attention to minor characters (and here i motsly mean liv tyler's character which, while impressive, was extraneous and not needed to forward the plot). legolas was very impressive. the whole gimli/legolas thing was virtually cut out, though, which i did not like. they could have done better by focusing on the two of them rather than introducing liv's character. but, visually, the movie was STUNNING!!! kudos to peter jackson. can't wait till the next one.

I know Arwen is in the books, but when? I'm not sure if she was in the Fellowship.
Oh well, I am disappointed as well about them leaving out the interaction between Legolas and Gimli. It's always entertaining to read about those two. As for the acting, all the actors protrayed their parts extreamly well. Boromir was as I imagined him. Arrogant, but honourable. Looking out for his country. Like I said before, I was most impressed by Legolas' performance. I'm glad that they wrote him to be more of a warrior. Tolkien wrote Elves to be singing hippies. If I'm not mistaken, there was no songs sung by anyone. The other two characters I enjoyed were Pippin and Merry. Very well done on their part!
All in all, I give a standing ovation to the LotR team, for I am also looking forward to the next two movies!!

@KoH, please don't post out of topic stuff, here. There's Speak Your Mind as a separate category. It's even got several LotR topics in it. Thanks.

The problem with SYM is if you try to start a decent conversation it just gets spammed to hell.

That generally doesn't happen if you include in the topic title something like "no-spam." Also, why don't you check out the LotR topic in SYM. That's a "decent conversation" about the LotR movie.

Because the conversations takes place only between 'dedicated' SYMers - outsiders are disregarded (and if you have a member number aboe 3k).

Not responding directly to someone's post does not mean that post is being disregarded. Generally though, those you're referring to as "'dedicated' SYMers" are the ones who post rather than lurk. It's hard to have a conversation with a lurker since they don't say much for you to respond to.

And in SYM, we're always happy to welcome new (to SYM) people and teach them the ways of spam.

I know it can be a bit overwhelming at times, but SYM is not that bad. If you can't keep up, or don't wish to, just lurk. That's what I mostly do.
Regardless there are some entertaining and intellectual viewpoints presented on the SYM board.
PS....don't give into Saturn's luring nature. Spam is the root of all that is corrupt and evil. To give in is to forfeit your soul...
