Ulgoth's Beard cult demon respawns (possible spoilers)

Hi all,
it's the first time I play ToSC (from the 4 in 1 boxset, no mods except exp cap remover). All went fine until the tanarri encounter.
I killed the cultists but only after the demon was summoned. I stormed the cellar several times to accomplish that (mostly with Cloudkill and Fireball spells). The cultists were dead, yet one of the dead bodies didn't disappear. The demon respawns from it again and again (I cheated heavily to be sure). One other of the Cult Guards sometimes appears again (and alive) but that doesn't change a thing. The demon respawns from the dead one whether I kill the last cultist or let him live.
I do not remember whether the conversation with the cult leader happened - so it probably didn't. Is there a way to trigger it or to stop the demon from respawning? (And of course, I don't have a backup save.)
