Telescope in Hall of Wonder

You get the quest to steal it from some guy in an inn, however I just can't do it.
I went there at every possible time of day and picked the lock, but when I open the chest I get noticed every time (I must have tried about 10 times) I even tried it in stealth mode still no success. Is there a way to get the telescope, short of killing everyone in the Hall and all the guards that appear once you start?

I think the only way is to run without killing the guards

The best way to handle this one is to go there at midnight - that's when everyone except for Alora (halfling thief NPC) will disappear. It's best to send in your thief alone to avoid trouble with the Flaming Fist, who will show up as soon as you open the container. Grab the telescope, drink a potion of invisibility, and hightail it out of there. IIRC, attacking the Flaming Fist will lower your reputation.
*Note: The Flaming Fist will disappear when you return a day later.

Also there is a passage that connects the Hall of wonder and the Temple.
Make sure that you use it.

I think you need to use the Boots of Speed. Nobody noticed me when I did it.

Same here
. I sent in Imoen wearing Boots of Speed, ignored the annoying little theif, swiped the telescope and crept out and ran for the low lantern for a some special celebrating

the easiest way is this
take imeon in there by herself go to stealth
pick the lock go back to stealth then take
it and go back into stealth repeat this for
the two gems also and you will get away everytime. the pattern is stealth, pick the lock, stealth, take the treasure, stealth and then move on to the next one using this i did it during the day.
