Is it possible to loose the transfer papers? I see in the quests section of my character that I have the papers and I should go talk to Gorch. But when I go to see him and ask what is behind the door he says that there is nothing there. I don't think I sided with Bodhi after my first encounter. There were a couple of times that when I "gained and item" and I couldn't carry anymore that whatever I dropped I picked back up. I'm a little lost and there are some good finds in the guild. I don't have any saved games from before that point.

I think it is possible, and Gorch will still say there's nothing there until you tell him you're there to see Mae'var, for which you'll need the papers.
If you have lost them then either use Shadowkeeper to add them to your inventory or activate and use the CLUAConsole (there's a great items listing by DSimpson at the BG2 GameFAQs section if you need the item code).

It is possible to lose anything in this game; thre's a bug which menas if you have a full back pack and pick up another item you'll get a warning that your character can't carry any more and your item is on the ground. The item that gets dropped is the one in the top left box in your inventory, no matter what it is, and it's very easy to miss the warning in amongst other messages and walk away and leave whatever it is. As far as I know this bug has never been fixed by either the game producers or third party modders.

For a solution follow Ode to a Grasshopper's suggestions, and always keep an eye on your back pack, and never have anything important in the slots on the left of the inventory.

I have also noticed that there is a bug that makes things simply vanish form your inventory, or even your quick slots. I've had no warning - they just disappear when you move from one area to another. I've only noticed this since I started using multiple mods.
I've been told that using ShadowKeeper to change games is a bit risky if you have a mod installed. Aone or two mod authors have posted this on their support forums. The easiest and safest way to restore missing objects is to use the Item Browser on Shadowkeeper (available in the View menu) to idenitfy the Clua code for the itme, and then use the console to import it :)

Thanks for the help. Is it easy to install the command into the game? I looked at the instructions but I couldn't find the Baldur.ini file. I'd rathernot have to reinstall the game or start over. I just took care of Firdraag (sp) and got my Holy Avenger. What a pain that was.

I'd suspect that one of the mods that you have installed is causing the problems Kiwidoc, I personally haven't experienced that phenomenon.

The only mods that I've experienced any problems with in regard to Shadow keeper are ones that create items from 'merging' items, that have more than one version, such as Ruad and Item Upgrade. They warn you not to complain if you use SK to give yourself the wrong version, but that's about it. Other than that, I'd treat any mod that issues that warning with suspicion and probably not use it.

PS I would however use SK with caution when editing characters if they were using kits or special abilities installed by mods.

I've never had any major problems with SK (have had a few of the issues Galraen mentioned though), and I have a few mods on the go. The trick is to do a Google search for what you're trying to do, keep a copy of the game you're editing, and test it before continuing with the game. Most of the time I just use it to speed up the romances.

@KRYTON - really easy, it's just adding the line "Debug Mode=1" (without quotation marks) to your configuration settings and then pressing Ctrl+Space bar in the game and typing "CLUAConsole:EnableCheatKeys" in the box - again, check GameFAQs for instructions. :) Baldur.ini will be a Wordpad document in your C:/Program Files/Black Isle/BGII-SoA folder (assuming you use the standard installation path) and should read "Configuration Settings" when you put your mouse over it. If you go to your "My Computer" section, into your C drive, then "Program Files" then "Black Isle" then "BG2-SoA" and look through all the files called "baldur" you should find it, unless you've installed it under a different C folder (I use 'Games' 'cos Vista doesn't like people screwing around with things in Program Files sometimes).
Make a copy of it before you edit it though.
Also, doing so will let you use Ctrl+J to teleport your party, which is a godsend sometimes.

Thanks guys. It worked and I created the Transfer papers. Is there something to change stats with the Debug Mode=1 trick or is that another mod?

Shadowkeeper is easiest, but if you cheat in a few of the Tomes/Manuals that boost stats from BG1 (the items are still available in the BG2 item files, though you can't find them legitimately in the game) that'll do it too.

Some of the Tomes don't work though Ode, but I can't remember which ones.

The tome of Wisdom does not work. Also I was ble to get some tomes for dexterity and intelligence, but sometimes they didn't work. I had to keep creating them until they did. If I created three tomes only one would work. But the ones that didn't I sold to a vendor and made some gold.

better not use CLUAConsole imo, because once you get the taste of it, you will start using cheat codes and get everything you want :speech: which will ruin the real taste of challenge :P

I always keep unknown items that seem important, and I keep them all in one place. For example, I use stash (or box) in Slums at the Copper Cornet, and I put all the items there. When I need certain items for quests, I simply head back to Slums and pick it up.
The only thing I dump on the ground is keys and letters. Once the quests are done, keys and letters become useless.

He's only doing it to restore an item he lost due to a limitation in the game engine (items being dumped on the ground when the PC has a full inventory and the game puts new ones in their inventory), so he can do the Thieves quest, it's not like he's using it to make an uber-character or anything - not that the vanilla game is really that challenging anyway when you know what you're doing. I'm sure most people here have the self-restraint to use the console or Shadowkeeper judiciously - I mostly use it to speed up romances and redistribute weapon proficiencies myself.

You might be able to get around it by copying it to your desktop and modifying it there, then moving it back. I'd still go with Crenshinibon's suggestion though.
