I've gotten to the tower of the Shattered hand and actually cleared everything but level 3 and the portions of level 1 and 2 only accessible via the elevator. But now, about 38 days in (game time) the game keeps crashing. I'm on Win 7 (but I've had no problems so far). I can't run it on Win 7's virtual XP (game won't start) and compatibility mode isn't working. Here's the error message I've been getting:

My computer can definitely handle the game (as it has up until now, and it's pretty beefy). I'm running on a 64 bit OS if that makes a difference.

No love on google for a fix here, can anyone help?

Did you install the latest patch?
Barring that, I'd say to re-install the game and make sure your override folder is deleted before the fresh install.

I'm on (as far as I can tell) the latest patch for HoW.

I've done a few reinstalls today, but I think I figured it out. This time I didn't install Trials of the Luremaster, which I had thought was an official add on but apparently isn't - no problems so far! So I guess that was the issue (unless it crashes again - in which case I'll be back!)

Trials of the Luremaster is official. Released for free by Black Isle to reward the fans. IIRC, it comes with the latest patch too. Maybe you installed Trials, then the patch again?

Nah, although my source on Trials might have been corrupt - but I'm ok not playing it (or installing it after I beat everything else and trying then)

My install order has been Icewind Dale and HoW via disc, then the Luremaster add on - actually that could be it - I'm assuming that I'm patched up by installing Luremaster but maybe that's incorrect - latest version is what, 1.42 or something?
