A few 3.5 beginner questions

Hello forums
Some friends and I have recently taken up D&D and after playing a campaign or two, there are a few things we aren't quite sure of:
-How does time pass in the game? Is it related to real world time, or is it generally decided by the DM?
-How often and how much does a character need to eat?
-One of our group is an Elf Sorcerer. Sorcerers get their spells back every 24 hours- in this case, is that during an elf's 4 hours of meditation (as they do not sleep)? Is it when the whole party sleeps/rests? Or is it literally when 24 in-game hours have passed?
-How does the Run feat work in combat? Can you literally run 150 feet (assuming base is 30) in the move action, or would running that far use up your whole turn?
They probably seem like silly and trivial questions, but everyone has to learn somewhere.
Many thanks
