hey guys, so ive been playing an evil campaign or whatever and i have this friend who decided he wanted to be some sort of fallen hound archon, our gm decided thats fine, the only problem i have is his spell resistance, it says in the mm tht they get sr 16+ class lvls, but hound archons have 6d8 racial hd, hes lvl 5 ex-paladin sooo, is his sr 21 or do racial hd count towards it aswell making it 27?

another thing thts wrong aswell is tht this friend of mine is rolling stats for characters at home, instead of infront of someone, obviously i have my doubts (who wouldnt) nd i keep asking our gm about it but i think hes to much of a pussy to say about it, now i dont like being a rules lawyer but im gonna confront him about it, is there anyway i should go about this?

Janos,

Starting with 6 HD natural HP on top of 5 levels of classed Hit Dice seems a little over powered to me, in your DM's shoes, I would say "Your first 6 character levels are Fallen Hound Archon, your 7th is your first level of paladin," making a 5th level fallen-paladin hound archon essentially a level 11 character, making the SR 27. Otherwise, I would base it off of his actual character level of 5, not giving him a boost for having natural hitdice because he didn't have to earn those levels (even if the book states that he has a 22 SR because of his 6 hitdice, that is a cookie cutter version, I'd say the player version needs to work up to being that powerful)

This is a tricky situation to be in. As a player in the game, it's really not your place to tell someone how to make their character. It's up to the DM to enforce the rules he wants in his game, if he is OK with a player rolling up everything at home, that's his choice. If the DM is not OK with it, but too timid to confront the player himself, encourage him to take charge. There are plenty of Fair ways to bring players into check, try suggesting a few to your DM. It sounds like he is running something "fast and loose" anyhow. At the least let him know how you feel about the situation (sounds like you already have). Above all else, don't boss your DM around, even if he isn't taking control, he needs the experience of commanding the game on his own terms in order to grow and become better at it.

Hope this helps, good luck,
FireSickle

Keep in mind that Racial HD are far less powerful than class HD (and his class is Paladin, which is weak, coupled with the fact that he's fallen and thus stripped of all class abilities, making it even weaker), and that Hound Archons have a starting LA of 4. (Or higher).
Conclusion: the hound archon will be considerably weaker than a regular character of even XP. Refer to the Planar Handbook/Savage species for using hound archons as PCs.
