Upon reaching the end of this trial where you get deluged with enemies in a small room, I'm wondering if they keep coming and are unlimited. It seems to me they keep spawning and I can't keep up with killing them. If there is a limited number, I think I'll be okay, I have about 50 heal potions. Answers?

They stopped after a while. At least for me.

There is a finite number, although first time through I also thought they'd never end.

The trick is to have as many Wards of Fire as you can afford before entering the trial, not a very useful tip if you're already committed I know! If you've gone the Celestial Magic route then a few Blessed Spirits are a major boon, with some of those you can take out all the Elders, although the first and third are dead easy anyway.

Apart from that keep moving and healing yourself and use Poison Cloud* as much as you can. Remember the spirits are also vulnerable to fire, so the elder up top actually is as much an ally as an enemy. The elder also teleports from platform to platform, so if you can spare the time to keep an eye on him you can move around, keeping underneath the platform he's on as much as possible.

* Poison Cloud also is very useful against the 2nd Elder, she can't attack if she's choking!

glitch

well if you dont mind exploiting a glitch then stand in the doorway and range the last ancient down with spells or a ranged weapon before you enter the room and start the little ancient spawns. and when the little ancients start spawning stand on one of the platforms and that platform wont spawn an ancient so you only fight 2 instead of 3.

If your getting low on health or your stunned then open your inventory and stand there till your health regenerates back to full or your unstunned then close the inventory and start killing again.

Also nether summons (fiends, giants, and wraiths as deathlords are bugged) and celestial summons (celestial spirit and divine intervention). just make sure you(not your minions) damage the ancients any at all before their dead or you wont get experience for their death

Also the nether spell drain life works very good at restoring life and doing damage.

Watch out for poison clouds (that you cast) and nova's (that you cast) as they will hurt your summons as well.
