Soldier/Councilar Build?

Hi there...
I'm playing KOTOR for the first time, on a LAPTOT...!
Yessssssss:
- A Laptot
- With an Intel Graphic Chipset
- and blablabla whatnot
The game actually crashed every 5 seconds down in Taris Undercity, but Disabling "Grass" in the options just made the day... Yay me!

NOW.

I just went up to level 8 with a soldier, as I wanted to take a "plain" class to play the game for the first time - and eventually try scout and scoundrel once I've acquainted with the game system and mechanics.
I stopped at level 8 as I gathered it was the "suggested" plain class level to stop at for good benefit of Jedi levels afterwards (and stopping at level 2 or the like would have made the completion of some quests impossible, such as Taris Cantina Arena and the like).
After that, the quiz in the Jedi Academy resulted in Jedi Councilar, and from a roleplay point of view that was the profile my Good Johnny Guy soldier was most psychologically and behaviourally close to.

Now, is having a Soldier(8)/Councilar(1->12) such an useless idiotic thingie?
What do you think?

As far as I have seen, it's given me feats enough to fill up what I was interested in (Master Two-Weapons fighting, Implant, Master Flurry and something else?), and now I will also be able to have a good Force arsenale, with enough Force stamina to use all my sweet Force Powers (that are even too many for me, I would have just picked a couple of them, choosing one every level or so is so difficult!).

Is it such a crappy template?
Got advice or suggestions?

Thanks :)

It's pretty much the same build I used my first time through with KOTOR so it does work okay. In truth though, for a first play through Base Class/Sentinel is probably the easiest character build due to flexibility (skill points and feats) and reasonable number for force powers. Soldier/Consular can get a bit bogged down especially if you don't have a good Wisdom/Charisma, which if I remember, determines the amount of Force you can use, but you can buff these with items. You also can't use force powers while wearing armor (so some of your soldier perks become useless when you are a Consular), but you can still swing a light sabre in heavy armor.

If you play through again, it is possible to complete Taris with a character level of 5 (more difficult for a Scoundrel) and this can maximise the levels of Jedi obtainable.

I think Scout is probably the most flexible class and works well with all the Jedi classes. And it is certainly worthwhile for the implants. It is the best class to take if you want to be a consular IMO, just as scoundrels tend to work best with the Sentinel class.

It's just you.

There is no difference in combat between male and female player characters. The only difference is potential NPC interactions and how the story line may progress, especially at the ending and with romances.

It may be a good thing to pick up on, though, for other games down the road. I'm betting other games are going to sooner or late begin differentiating between the genders a bit, but because of the more simple battle system (simple for AD&D, anyways) employed by KotOR with basic strength and dexterity modifiers there's no way to incorporate that into a game like this using the game structure background the devs decided to use.

This guide to character optimization helped me out plenty of times. You'll be able to get a better overview of AB, skill points, feats, powers, saves etc. for different levels of the Soldier/Consular combo. And other classes as well.
