Multiclass help-Expert Advice Needed

Hi, i am playing with a party of me a bard/rogue, a half orc barbarian, and a cleric. I am thinking of getting one more character- an npc that i might be able to romance. I am male. Im not very far into the game and my character-bard/rogue is not very good. I figured that mixing those 2 classes would be good, well its not.

Im not asking for something that can blow everything away, i am just looking for some class that excels at sneak attacking/flanking but can still stand in a fight.

1) Ive always liked rangers and would like to start over as a ranger/rogue since ive heard its a popular build and works well. The thing is i dont want to go with dual wielding. Everyone does it and i dont want to. Would it still be worthwhile to make a ranger 3/ rogue 7 or something like that or should i just go with a barbarian2 or 3/rogue 7. I know barbarians are good to dual as rogues too but im not sure which would work better. I want to make a finesse fighter who uses weapon finesse with a rapier or something.

2)Are there any romanceable female npcs in hommlet that i can join?

Thanks for any advice you can give.

As far as i know there is only one romanceable female NPC in Hommlet, but whether or not she can join you - i have no idea.

Note however that there may aswell be a few dozen of romanceable females, i just didn't explore this particular area of the game at all.

Spoiler alert

There are two females in Hommlet that you can you get to join your party. I suppose you could loosely call both a "romance", I would only call one of them a true romance. :)

**spoiler**
Spoiler
The romance involves the farmer's daughter named Melanie (he has 2)who is a level 1 druid. She will always speak with you but to get the romance working you need to speak with her with a male party member that has a charisma around 14 IIRC. Her father will also bequeth you a fantastic longsword if you marry her. The sword's description is wrong, it is MUCH more powerful than the described. The other female is Fruella, a level 3 fighter who wields a wicked cleaver. She is the daughter of a fisherman or hunter I believe, and is an old maid the dad is trying to marry off. She will join your party only if you marry her. The downside is that once she joins your party she will not leave (till death do you part).

i ran through with a 1/2 elf party and made a NG Ranger6/Druid4/Fighter4 (leveling to ranger 6 first for the added track buffs then alternating between leveling druid and fighter to keep from xp penalties). She went with the bow track and was deadly once you can make one of the magical bows a +3 Holy Longbow. Druid entangle spell keeps enemies stationary and her safe from melee, Greater Bracers of Archery allows her to almost never miss. Against the top enemies she was hitting consistantly for 20-30 points of damage each arrow (use manyshot). it just took a bit to maximize her potential.
