How to pay fines in Oblivion

Hi, I've been having trouble in Oblivion finding a guard to pay my fines to.
When I say in dialogue that I will pay, I get dumped, for example, outside the castle walls in Skingrad. Neither Dion nor any of the guards or jailers will talk to me about paying my fines.
I don't want to lose skills, so I don't want to spend time in jail.
I read Fable's console fix for crime level, and tried it:
`
player->setpccrimelevel 0
At first, 'player' wasn't recognized, then I saw that another poster had typed an '.' (period punctuation) and tried that. Then 'player' was recognized, but the rest of the fix wasn't.
So, my questions are:
1. Who takes the money for the fine?
2. What's a better way to use the console to set the crime level?
Thank you!

Just for future notice, there was no need to both PM me twice (if you haven't PMed others) and open this thread with the same text. The thread would have been enough. You don't even need to give it a lot of time, the people on GameBanshee are generally a helpful bunch.

Well, if the guards aren't taking your money, it's because of one of two things (presuming your game just isn't glitching up or something):
1) You don't have enough gold. Obviously, you should go earn some!
OR
2) Your fines are simply too high. This means it's jail or death for you!
Now, assuming you're part of the second case, open the console with ` (or ~), and type:
player.setcrimegold 0
That should do the trick. Talk to a guard afterwards though, just to be sure.

The console command that Moot gave is the correct one, if you use that it'll work fine. The only way to pay them in game, other than via a guard, is to join the thieves guild and talk to your contact.
In my experience, if your fine is too high guards won't give you the option to just pay the fine but just the option to either surrender and go to prison, or die.

Yeah just join the thieves guild and always run away from guards. They will follow you very long but sooner or later you can get rid of them without killing them(a bit hard without a horse). In the docks district look for Armand Cristoph(after midnight outside with a torch so easy to find him but usually he is in his house(you need to pick the lock on his door).
As I remember you need to pay half the money and you can keep your stolen goods too.

Possible options for getting away easily :
- Have high athletics, and outrun them
- Have atthletics enchancing potions / spells
- Paralyze them
- Levitate
- Teleport
- Turn invisible
- Chameleon+sneak after hitting a corner / entering a building
- Jump on buildings
- Combination of a few mentioned above
And my favourite ;
- Obliterate the city you're in.

or(spoiler)
equip your grey fox mask(cowl of nocturnal?) and kill them(it wont have a negative effect on your normal fame/infamy thanks to the mask and you dont need to pay more at Armand Cristoph

With the Modular Oblivion Enhanced (M.O.E.) mod, for example. It offers, amongst other things, the "Wings of Kynareth" Spell, with which you are able to levitate in outdoor areas. Pretty high Magicka cost, though

Ah. I wondered if it was a Mod. Must be a pretty extensive mod, though, co I understood from reading about Levitation in this game (when I first bought it ages ago), that it wasn't possible cos if you went up (apart from climbing) all you got to see was lines, not the scenery.
Unless I have my lines crossed with some other game. ??

Nah, you have it right. With Oblivion they went a step BACK from Morrowind, where you could hunt birds (or rather the annoying flying thingies that swarm on you)

Heh, Cliffracers. Couldn't play Morrowind without a proper wildlife mod.

I vote "Obliterate the city you're in", because why not...:mischief:
By the way you can "Dupe" items By-
-Pick a scroll, make sure you have 10.
-Pull out sword, axe, etc.
-Attack.
-Before attack ends, click scroll 2x.
-Pick a item to "Dupe".
You now can pick them up and sell them.
This really helps to make momey.
