Weapon skills explained

The Escapist : News : Skyrim Features "Perk" Trees Instead of Weapons Skills

Makes sense. I wonder how it will end up working out.

The big question for me is have they done anything about the fact that you're better off using a blunt butter knife than a vorpal sword. The system of rewarding quantity of hits rather than quality really needs to be fixed.

Not sure about my stance on this, it does make more sense. I mean, if you're skilled in lighter swords, you're skilled in most light swords, right? Meh.

I'm still a little miffed at ESIV tossing out spear, and long and short blade.
How many times do I have to tell you? If you kill me, you get a simple glove. If not, you get a rare and valuable item, Wraithguard. Oh, but my soul is worth quite the sum.
Wait here. No, not over there. Right here. Okay. Yes, I am the Grand Champion.

You're telling me. No spears in Skyrim, either, which is a shame. It was my favorite weapon in Morrowind!

Let's say we have a claymore. Which is really, really long. Let's set it on fire. We'll use our armory skill to increase it past its peak. Oh look, someone with a rusty iron dagger.
<a moment passes>
Now we're dead, because we were stabbed fifty-three times in the chest. Sure we got off a hit, but all it did was make them slide backwards a little. What a shame.

Yeah, I hope they fix this, too.
