Not sure if I'm going to try it on normal or HoF mode. Anyways, I wanted to list the gear I currently have and see if there is anything better I should be looking for:
-Rogue's Cowl
-Studded Leather +4 Shadowed
-Gauntlets of Weapon Expertise
-Ring of Shadows
-Ring of the Warrior Thief
-Black Wolf Talisman
-Girdle of Stromness
-Boots of the Fox
-Cloak of Invisibility
-Longsword of Action +4
-Longbow +4 Hammer

Just want to say that you can solo the game starting at level one, without any equipment, which is what makes it difficult.
Having the equipment already on you makes it way too easy.
Also, note that if you have HoW installed, it will be easier for you, since the cap increases to level 30.
Some of these items are random, so it's entirely possible that you may not encounter them in your playthrough.
For a fighter/mage, some items of interest are in the HoW expansion (again, if you have it).
If you do have this expansion, note that the second expansion, Trials of the Luremaster is very difficult for a single character, so you want to create a seperate save before starting it, since you will not be able to get back until you finish the campaign.
As for the items, they look pretty much ideal, if not overkill.
As a fighter/mage, you should be fine, even without those items. After all, your spells are what really make you strong.

The "Girdle of Stromnos" is nice if but for the hard battles you might want to wear another girdle and use strength raising potions.
If you're not good aligned look for the Bone Marrow Belt. In combination with other items like the "Clasp of Bron's Cloak" and a "Great Shield +3" you can get over 100 percent slashing resistance.
If you're good aligned get the "Shimmering Sash".
The "Girdle of Ogre Blood" will give regeneration and 5 powerful summons once per day. Can be used to reduce resting time and to prepare before battle.
With a longbow you'll need magical arrows to be able to hurt some of the harder monsters from the distance, Lover (throwing dagger +4) doesn't require any ammo.
There is one enemy type in HoW which requires blunt weapons. The best weapon in the game is the "morningstar of action +4" (removed with HoW).
Take the "ring of reckless action" if it stacks with the "ring of the warrior thief", the "ring of shadows" is quite useless.
You should be aware that you won't be able to find the "ring of the warrior thief" legally if you have HoW installed.
Wearing the "cloak of invisibility" is only useful when you use it. Other cloaks like "Wailing of Virgins" offer bonuses while worn.

Thanks for the reply. Yea I noticed during my original play-through that some of the items were removed with HoW installed. I have to admit that kind of stinks but oh well. I just wanted to get an idea of gear I can hope to obtain. Your also right about TotLM. I had a hard enough time with a full party much less using a single character. So maybe that's not possible. I dunno. Anyways just thought it would be a nice challenge. I thought the ring of shadows would be good cause of the non-detection perk but I don't think you have to worry about that in IWD compard to games like BG2 and ToB. The cloak of invisibility was pretty sweet once I got one since I was able to backstab more. Backstabbing in a party environment only works once and then the monsters automatically find the rest of your group even if they're on the other side of the map. But I guess if I'm by myself then hit and run stealth would work better. Well cool Just wanted to see what items would ultimately best for a fighter/thief to be using, especially in a solo run. If you guys think of any others, let me know. Still trying to decided between doing it on normal or HoF which I probably can't do lol.

Both normal and HoF mode are possible, even TotL. But killing the HoF monsters without spells is slow and tedious and you'll have to accept just sneaking past some enemies.
The cloak of invisibility is the most powerful item for soloing a fighter/thief, but the game is even beatable without it.
An item which also can be useful for soloing is the "badge of the brave". If you play HoF mode watch for summoning items like goblin arrows (can be fun in normal mode too).
With HoW installed the only way to get the "Longbow +4 Hammer" is killing the Bowyer in Lonelywood, this requires bending the game mechanics (he's supposed to disappear as soon as you attack him) and loosing a merchant and quest NPC. Go for the repeating heavy crossbow +5 at the location where you found the longbow +4 in chapter 6 without HoW.

Good to know. I originally played the game without HoW and afterwards play it as well as TotLM. So its disappointing that alot of items are now removed with HoW. Thanks for the tip on the crossbow. I'll be looking for it. Thanks K, your a wealth of information bro.
