Title mostly says it all, the moment I try to load the Ice Temple my game crashes without any error message or anything. If anyone has any information on this I would be much appreciative, thanks.

I only just started playing the game, I just got done with the area with the wolves and the chicks after the airship crash. When I try to go on to the next area the game crashes. What other entrance are you talking about?

I actually recently did a full format and have only installed the game a couple days ago.

You can enter the temple via main door - where you fought Sherincal - but also you can have a gnome open a backdoor for you.

I think the original poster is talking about getting to the Ice Temple Exterior, which there is only one entrance. I would recommend uninstalling the game and then reinstalling with the issues you have talked about.

Yeah I'm an idiot, I was looking at the guide wrong and thought I was loading the Ice Temple but it was actually the Ice Wall, so yeah thats where its crashing :/

I have reinstalled twice now but no change it still crashes right there... This sucks because I was starting to really like this game but now it seems like I have to stop because of this bug

What would I be missing if I tried teleporting past the Ice Wall and straight to the Ice Temple? Perhaps I could use cheats to give whatever items and xp I would have gotten if I went through the ice wall.

You would be missing the best conversation in IWD2, the best NPC in the game, and a very good fight.

I know that i COULD lie, but i decided not to. Sherincal is one of very few reasons to play IWD2

I Finally got an error message using the teleport cheat to try and load the ice wall whereas before I wasn't getting one:

An Assertion failed in ChDataTypes.cpp at line number 261
Programmer says: Uncompression Error: -3

If anyone has seen this before and knows what to do I'd be much appeciative, in the meantime I'm gonna google the error and see if anyone else had had the issue and maybe resolved it.

As nobody has mentioned this yet, have you patched your game? You can get the official patch from Icewind Dale II @ GameBanshee or Sorcerer's Place - Icewind Dale 2 Official Patches & Miscellanea for instance.

Ahh, yes actually I do have it patched. After a lot of teleporting I ended up skipping the Ice Wall and Temple all together before i finally hit an area that wouldn't crash on load. It was right outside some large structure that had dragons that said they were used to humans. After fighting a grip of yeti's I got into the place and it was some monk training place and after talking for a bit i learned that apparently i needed to use some pass, after quite a ways I ended up back with oswald and his niece at the airship and then we went to some town that was being wrecked by undead and yaunti. After that it crashed again... with roughly the same error. I not sure what to do but it looks like this game isn't playable for me, I'm probably going to just uninstall it and watch the dust collect on the box.

That sucks It's a pretty damn good game.

Correct me if i'm wrong, but wouldn't downloading the game in such a case be justified? You have the original game, but it bugged out, thus trying out a differend version...?

yes,i meet such problem.

I'll try a torrented version but I don't really see how it will make a difference versus the retail version, I mean one would think is any version had bugs it would be a downloaded one.

The problem may be caused by a scratch on the cd, or slightly de-magnetised(?) cd.

Give them torrents a try.
