Choppy framerate for no apparent reason

I started a fresh BG1 game, completed it and then continued my character to SoA (using BGT) without any performance issues, but now the game started running choppy-ly for no apparent reason. It started happening in the temple ruins, where you fight the .
Any ideas?
P.S: Posted this in ToB section because I have the complete BG2 from GOG and maybe it has something to do with it.
