my characters? no, me personally.

I have 2 NPCs in my party: Jarial and Emmeric. Neither of which I am crazy for, but they could be worse. I finally found my way into some tomb of eternal sleep with a paladin there. He was super eager to join the party and I kind of like him. I wanted to get rid of Jarial since I already have a sorcerer, but then I thought about how he was trapped in that rock betrayed by his companion. I couldn't do it. Then I thought about getting rid of Emmeric because I thought the paladin would be a good substitute for him. But what did Emmeric ever do to me? I didn't want to condemn him to a life of eternal paralysis! When I get rid of Jarial or Emmeric, I was hoping that we could part more amiably, like "this is the end of our journey here, good luck in whatever you do from now on."

So I didn't take the paladin.

Anyone else have something similar happen to them?

I wish there was some banter with the NPCs, because then it would be easy to get rid of them when they say something insolent to me!

Personally, I prefer to go solo anyway. But if you're running with a full party and role-playing your PC properly, then it makes more sense to ask Emmeric to step up (rather than Jarial, whose magic you're probably somewhat dependent upon, and who would in all likelihood be wary of another indefinitely-long imprisonment).

IMO, Eadred is easily worth the trade: he's got better starting stats -- the best in the game, in fact! -- AND unlike most paladins, he's somehow managed to acquire the Cleave feat. (Who knows? Maybe they used to teach such things in Paladin School, waaaay back in the day! :laugh

And if it helps your conscience: a) keep in mind that lawful good Emmeric and his self-worth issues would be happy to make such a sacrifice for the greater good, and b) you can justify that at some point after the game ends, all such spells just might become null and void, freeing him in any case.

That's my two cents... a penny after taxes.

thanks for the advice. You're right, it probably will be Emmeric, and I never did take the chance to look at his alignment. I like your justification, it makes it easier for me to make the decision! I was going to just wait until I run into the next NPC, but that could be forever. I know I've had Jarial (gotta get rid of him) and Emmeric for what seems like an eternity.
