Dungeons and dragons in Chat rooms?

I think it'd be VERY fun to get together an internet 'club' where we play dungeons and dragons the 'keyboard and screen' way as opposed to pen and paper - there would be less limits on people, because you wouldn't be limited by travel, just set a time and everyone logs on to some chat server and we could just play 3ed with people all over the world

Nice idea. But then we have Gamebanshee, and we could do it here, although it would be slower.

It would be tough - die rolling etc?
Though I have thought about.

Ok, I'm no AD&D expert , but I read somewhere in the GameBanshee forum that AIM has a dice rolling system or other? And I was thinking, we could incoporate the Heroes of Might and Magic 3 system.
Like:
The monster have 5 skeletons of 10 HP each (let's say). Meaning a total of 50 HP in that "cluster" of monsters. The player can then roll a dice (for damage).. and let's say it's 8 (1d10 die). So the 'cluster of skeletons' remaining HP is 42, meaning 1 skeleton has died, and another is "badly injured". Anyway, that's just a suggestion.

I've never played PnP and don't know much about anything - but I would be willing to join if I was permitted
Gotta learn sometimes - especially with upcomming NwN

I don't know if it is true, but I remember several weeks ago on this forum that Buck mentioned he is going to add a section dedicated to D&D 2nd and 3rd edition rules. Can anyone confirm this? Buck?
I looked at some of the 3rd edition rules and have no idea. For example, what is Reflex save? I know some, though not thorough 2nd rules, and now I am totally lost in 3rd edition rules. Can anyone tell me a site where it can explain in laymen's term 3rd edition rules?

I am by far into the 3.ed rules (or 2.ed BTW)
but after what I've found out there are 3 savethrows, Willpower - Reflex and Fortitude.
Willpower AFAIK is agains mindspells (charm etc.) and is decided partly by WIS.
Reflex is when you roll to avoid stuff (ei. Fireball) and is partly decided by DEX.
The last, Fortitude, is partly decided by CON and is agains poisons and stuff like that (IIRC)
When I say party decided, it is because other things can/will add/subtrackt to this roll.
Like many other things I think (don't know) that such a roll will be made by a d20.
Hope this helps a bit.

I would like to join a D&D group if it was created.
I've got all the 3rd edition rulebooks, and a set of dice.

All we would really need is a truthful DM to make the Die rolls, and trust everyone when it comes to taking damage and such. I'd be up for it.

I too would like to do it. I have never played PnP before and I think the experience would be quite good. Perhaps Paradox could be our DM?

I'd be up for playing, even though all of you are thinking "Who in the sweet blue Christ is THIS guy?"

If anyone would DM a game count me in!
I have limited access to the Player's Handbook and the DMG. We should start a list of people who would like to play. I guess the first thing is to find a DM. Any takers??

I found at one time a progrm you can use to play AD&D over the internet, it had graphics and everything. You could even put in your own campaigns.
It was called WebRPG I just found it on my back up drive.
I will try to find the website again and post it.
I miss playing PnP D&D, wish I could find people to play with over the internet.
Like using ICQ or MSN Messenger or WebRPG.
Anyway email me here if you want info.

Well, it seems a lot of people really like the idea. all we really need is a reliable chat/board to use.

Y'all can count me in. I may even be able to help find a forum for it (if Buck Satan won't host it here,
).
I am trying to get back into the D&D experience by getting into an online game. I have read through the 3rd Ed. rules and think I have a vague grasp of them, but obviously need to play a game to really understand. I have created a character (Dwarven Fighter) who is pretty solid. I have access to the Internet pretty much full time so I can respond to situations often to help keep thegame moving along. If anyone can help find me a home, I would be most appreciative.

Well the IRC client mIrc has always been good in my book.
I don't like ICQ much and don't think it would be good for this either.

I could DM some, I think I actually have a few modules still around that aren't too bad. They are 2nd edition though. I am not familiar yet with 3e rules.
It seems we have alot of interested players (me included
). DM'ing a huge party would be quite a challenge.

This sounds promising. So how many people are in? And what's our best option for a place to play? Just a regular chat room? It would be really cool if we could get a game going. Should we post characters or something?
