Sneak attack anyone?

Just curious if anyone has tried out the new sneak attack? I was thinking of making a more melee thief that used sneak attack as opposed to backstab.

You can go into the config menu and down on the bottom right of the gameplay tap you can switch the thief's backstab to the 3rd edition sneak attack.

I'm actually liking it alot. It requires alot of micromanaging with your thief but if you like that, which I do, then it works great. Now this also means playing your thief from a more melee perspective. I don't know if it works with ranged weapons. I haven't tried it.

If it works just as in 3e P&P, then it does indeed work with ranged weapons, but only from 9 meters or less. (perhaps this will help you figure it out?)

Ok the new sneak attack is working fantastic. I got a few equipment questions though. I'm playing my fighter/thief more melee style where he bounces around sneak attacking each enemy. Its a blast, I have to admit. He currently has an 18/00 STR. Right now he's got the ring of reckless action and shimmering sash equipped to help out his AC and have an additional attack since he's in melee so much. I just got the girdle of stromnos and that potion where you can lose 1 CON to gain 1 STR. My question: Should I use the girdle of stromnos and the potion to give me a 20 STR but lose a bit of AC from switching out belts OR should I just keep what I've got so I'm more defensive? Hope all that makes sense.

If I'm not mistaken, the Girdle of Stromnos fixes your strength to 19 insted of granting an additional point of strength, i.e. you can't surpass that number, so what you plan won't work. However, I remember a ring of +1 strength (but I can't recall its name) which adds 1 STR to your base attribute.

The girdle of Stromnos might fit better to someone who has less than 18/00 strength and therefore gets more than only +1 to damage for wearing it.
It's your decision whether you use the potion or not. Your fighter/thief would loose 9 hitpoints (and also +1 to 3 or 2 saving throws if he's a halfling or gnome with 18 con) but gain +1 to damage which is more fun.
If you have a character without warrior levels (like bard or pure class cleric) and more than 16 con (s)he can drink the potion without loosing hitpoints.

Hey Kmonster, thanks for the reply man. Yea my character is an elven fighter/thief with a 17 constitution so the potion might hurt too much. I'll give the stromnos girdle a go though. Should I remove the ring of reckless action since I lose 2 AC with it on?
Majorman, you might be right about that. I'll check that out tonight. Really since he's a melee thief, I'm just trying to balance my defense with my offense but sneak attack is a blast.

I'd keep the ring of reckless action. An extra attack per round is far more useful than 2 AC. If you've trouble keeping your fighter/thief alive give it to another character, like the druid who can become almost immune to physical damage when he learns the water elemental form and wears the right equipment.
