Bringing up the console

How do you do this? Everything I've read says you hit left shift plus tilde at the same time. I've got the GOG edition of the game with the latest Co8 mod. When I press those 2 keys nothing happens. Anybody know what's going on here? Thanks

Well I guess not. I've looked all over trying to find an answer. Apparently there are others with the same issue so I don't know. I guess it will be one of those unsolved mysteries where it works for some and others it doesn't.
