I found this watching some ladies 100 or so part walkthrough of dungeon lords on youhoo video. No I didn't watch them all haha. Seems she played DL even more than me.

Her battle tactic was to hit twice then back off with shield up. Repeat. I tried it myself and I killed the enemy faster because none of my attacks were interupted. WAAY more effective on mages. Difficult to use in massive battles but you can do it for 1 or 2 cycles as you kite and charge outliers.

Its really like night and day with this tactic. I have noticed that dual wield it is better to just bumrush everything because its easy to interupt them and the special moves deal a lot of damage. But with practice you can mix tactics with dual wield. I am still learning but I have improved a lot with this tactic. Watch her video if you don't understand this.

Another nice thing is that gas is blocked by shield.

..I think I remember that - it's weird. :D

After a few play-through(s) I just went with Armor/Parry, Elemental resistance items, and the "wards" when needed. (..note how the game limits opponents from using significant offensive magic on you early-on. Those opponents that do have such an effect are usually something that an obstacle that is optional at earlier levels - even the "banshee" to get to the east is an option with the north passage.)

I discovered that if you jump attack the banshee and then run back and jump attack or just keep jumping her to the wall... She never uses her spell attack. With dual wield if you move side to side when she is pinned against the wall she never uses her spell, at least worked for me I haven't repeated it.

I find that while jumping and dual-wielding, you attack a lot faster than normal. I end up dicing everything up like a blender when I discovered that. The forward movement in the jump causes you to move away from enemies and prevent you from being mobbed also.
