I am trying to find a good character for my pc??

cleric?? not so good at these
thief-usually I like thief

But I was wondering about multiclass in BG..

What are the virtues of...

F/T
F/M/T
M/T
F/T
Ill/T
cleric/F
c/T
F/M/C

Bard?
druid?
ranger?

I have a general idea of these, but I haven't played a low level ADnD 2 adventure crpg


Also any tips about the UI that you realized halfway through the game or 2nd playthrough something like that?

I'm currently playing with a fighter/thief, I've never really had a thief as a pc, so thought I'd give it a whirl. I decided to multi-class because it's easy to get squished early doors in BG1. Also, I don't know if this applies too all ad&d pc games but my F/T can wear helms, some heavy armour and normally unavailable (for a thief) weapons without restricting his thieving abilities.

Cleric's rock in BG1. Hold Person is absolutely incredible. Multi class with Ranger for ultimate cheese and druid spells.

As for the UI the only advice I can think of is remember the game unpauses when you enter the inventory screen. Keep track of who is carrying what so don't have to waste time during combat. You don't want your PC to die from poison because you can't remember who has the antidote.

If you are playing without a level cap remover then the only real downsides to FMT is you never get 9th level spells or HLAs (or 8th level spells IIRC) and you progress very slowly in BG1. It's a killer class with the LCR and playing solo though.

Ranger/Cleric is very good as poor implementation means you get Druid and Cleric spells.

Any of the multis work well though, and as Crenshibon would point out the Bard can be a very powerful class with his/her abilities to use wands and later UAI.

I'm planning yet another run through next week (it's a game that should run well on my netbook whilst I'm away from home) and I'm going for a role playing experience with an Cleric/Thief, or maybe a dual classed Assassin/Cleric.

You cannot wear plate & use thieving skills of your a thief or fighter/thief. I personally love the Bard (Blade Kit). But I would recommend installing Tutu & Rogue Re-balancing.

Can I play BG1 as a half orc using tutu?

Yes, do you know how to install Tutu or any other mods?

I just made another thread about that. I think I am going to be a half orc cleric thief which is something I had been thinking about.

I was lead to believe that the GOG version was a combo like Tutu, i.e. it used the SoA version of the infinity engine.

Nah its the regular version of BG, but I have since installed easy tutu. I decided to play a half-orc cleric/thief. Its going pretty good so far..

I can certainly concur with that. I personally don't plan to solo BG/BGII but I had decided to try a F/M/T. With the normal party of 6, the progress has been so painfully slow I have given up on that character. I spent so much time having to protect them from creatures that I would normally be overly worried with that I felt my PC was the "slacker" in the party. :laugh:
It would sure be tough for a solo F/M/T to survive long enough to level.

Also concur that Ranger/Cleric is a great combo. Worth a try if you haven't ever done one.

In my opinion, as Galraen had already said, the Bard, along with the F/M/T are the two strongest characters in the game since they can do anything you need them to. I have soloed the game with both and can safely say that it is by far the easiest and the fastest with them. Both (without TuTu) have the ability to spam spells through wands, as was said before, and to backstab, though the Bard needs to rely on his/her spells and potions to achieve the invisibility status.

You can easily get yourself to ten thousand experience by heading over to Berghost, stealing Algeron's cloak and charmin the five Sirens over at the temple, killing them one by one. Each one grants two thousand experience as well as a pearl and five arrows of biting. For a Bard, this is enough to get him/her to level five.

For easy XP I just collect(temples sell them as I remember) protection from petrification scrolls(mages have a similar low level spell with shorter duration) and a few potion of mirrored eyes(buy them from Thalantir the beregost wizard).After that I travel to Mutagens Garden with the party,kick them all and solo the basilisks(Koraxx makes the first 1-2 easy after that you should be strong enough to solo them).If you clear that 1 map you should be around lv 6.

Yes, the bard gets backstab in the original BG1 only. In BG2, he/she no longer has that ability.

You've probably already started playing but in my opinion the strongest class in BG1 is the Fighter. Especially if you're new.
