Mikolaj and Filip

In Witcher 2, Act 1, in the town of Flotsam, near the blacksmith, two characters are discussing whether or not the witcher would be willing to listen to their offer. Their names appear as [PL] Mikolaj and [PL] Filip. I don't know the signifigance of the [PL] that precedes their names. If you talk to them, they want the witcher to try out an experimental potion and keep a journal for their research. You can refuse or accept their offer, but no entry appears in your journal.
Anyone know what's going on here? Perhaps an inside joke?

20 - Adam and Brady
These two alchemists want you to test their product and then pay them a visit in Vizima in a year or two. You can either accept this or refuse. The names must have been changed somewhere in the 1,2 or 1,3 patch, because I don't remember the two having [PL] tags when I've talked to them in 1,1 version, but I've noticed the tags in the latest run-through.
It could be a bug, but I'm guessing it's more of a homage.
