In the thread "What happened, GB" several of us really old members appeared. The thread is of course focused on GB and not us as individuals, but seeing the likes of Kiddo, Weasel, Minerva, my countryman Karembeu made me curious to find out what actually happened to you all.
What happened to me? Back in 2001 when I joined this forum, I was a PhD student in neuroscience and although I worked quite a lot, I had far more time to spend on entertainment than I have now. Back then I only had to focus on my own research - now I'm a bloody ass. Professor and have to deal with teaching, making courses, collaborating with lots of other groups spread all over the world and supervise my students. I've spent a large part of this year creating a 5-year plan for a project that's going to be performed all over Europe.
In my private life, I'm the mother of a very active and talkative 4-year old but I'm divorced from her father. After having worked as a guest researcher in the US for 2 years and in Japan for a couple of months, we are back in Sweden. Living in the US was a terrible experience for me and although I was offered a very good position I just could not live there, particularly not with a child. I just can't accept that kind of society, so I was happy to return to my old university.
As for why I don't hang our here anymore; I have no time to play computer games, so the connection here is lost while I stay in touch with some of the old members I used to interact with via Facebook and occational e-mails. And I still think I am the GB member who has met most other GB members IRL![Stick Out Tongue :p](./images/smilies/)
