NPC Quest rewards

Post by BWolfen5 »

Hey everyone! I have looked all through this forum, and couldn't find my answer, so I have to ask... I am soloing through BG and ToTSC, I want to milk every little bit of XP. However, I don't know if Jaheira/Khalid and Montarron/Xzar actually give a reward for solving the Nashkel mine quest. Does anyone know?

No, there's no reward. Jaheira/Khalid and Xzar/Montharon serve mostly as a plot device to get the story moving. However it might be fun to keep them around for a while, since at some point they will attack one another. You can ditch the survivors afterwards :D
Also note that, unless you have removed the XP cap, you don't have to complete all quests to reach the highest level possible.

To underline what Majorman said about XP, unless you have removed the level cap you will hit the cap long before the end, almost certainly before you reach Baldur's gate if you milk all the available xp outside the Gate.

Yeah, I knew I didn't need the XP, but I'm anal like that. So all the running I've been doing to get those 4 to Nashkel while keeping them from soaking my XP was for nothing. D'oh! Still it was pretty interesting cleaning an area then dragging them along behind me. I just got the GOG version of this game as a little bit of reminiscence. I played it a lot years ago, but never soloed. Thanks for the info!
By the way, are any other NPC quests without reward like those?

With some quests, the reward you get depends on your charisma. Sometimes the only reward is experience.

I just want to point out that this is not (entirely) the case. The game will still record all the xp you get beyond the cap. It will be given to you if you transfer the character to BG2.

That never happened with me Tricky when playing without a level cap remover. When I got into BG2 I was set at the max for SC. Even happened once when I'd played with the LCR in BG1/TOSC but didn't have it installed on BG2.
