Can anyone tell me if the wildmage kit is a good char.

I like the idea that U can't control your magic (like it should be), but then again it is pretty annoying when you have to reload (becouse your mage is weakened).

I think it is funny, but annoying :D

they're OK, nothing special. you only loose control of your magic 5% of the cats you do or if you choose to, with a spell (there are 2, i think). not much different from normal mages. bioware only added them to make BG2 look better

Heh, their Surge effects can be handy, like double cast, cast at -2 to saves...

its hard to get the one you want, unless you cheat, though. there is a 1\100 chance of the one you want, unless it is in twice (i think normal casting is). some of the effects of really bad, though. like, 6,7 and 31 are quite bad for you.

Wild Mage's are definitely a fun character to play with. The chance of you getting a good effect on your wild surge or Nahal's Reckless Dweomer spell, are greatly increased if you use either Chaos Shield or Improved Chaos Shield.

If you load up on as many Nahal's Reckless Dweomer spells, you can essentially cast the level 9 wish spell as often as you like and use that refresh everyone option. Very handy to have.

Another benefit is their ability to have an extra spell slot like the other specialist mages, but not have any opposition school, so for all intents and purposes you can memorise all the spells you like from every school of magic.

On the whole though, they are great characters to play with due to their variability and the often chaotic results they can produce. :D

Well... as an add on to the above post...

You could also cast as many contingency/sequencer type spells with the Nahal's Reckless Dweomer spell without fear of wild surges... essentially making battles EXTREMELY short... and convienient if you are not the kind of 'hide in a corner and rest after a battle' kind of person =)

The Nahal's Reckless Dweomer spell also provides your mage access to contingency/sequencer type spells that are far above their level... enabling you to breeze through battles in the early stage of SoA. After i found that out, the 1st thing i did was to go to the copper coronet and get that spell sequencer spell for my wild mage. Needless to say, my wild mage suddenly became really 'broken' with greater mailson/emotion/glitterdust sequancers.

As for wild surges... *sigh*... i had a lot of bad experiences with them. Somehow the 'dizzy effect' seems to take place a lot of time for me.

Btw, does anyone have an accurate wild surge table online?
