who is Artemis?
who is Artemis?
I used the CLUAConsole to create Artemis. Who is he, he's pretty tough to beat. He doesn't initiate any dialog or anything like that. Oh, did anyone tried using the MDK2 summoning cheat. My game crashed when I tried.

Mythology: Artemis - Female god of born, hunt and moon. Child of Zeus and Leto. Sister of Apolo. She was very proud of her purity and the purity of her followers. Because of this purity she have some problems with Calisto. As a god of hunt she was ever drawn with a Bow and arrows.

If I remember correctly, and it's been a while, there was a character named Artemis Entreri in the Dark Elf (Drizzt) series of books who was a fighter/thief type character and was one of the only swordsmen to ever be able to go toe-to-toe with Drizzt and walk away. I will have to look that up when I get home to be sure, but I am guessing that this Artemis is the same one.
Artemis Entreri is Drizzt Do'Urdens arch-rival and mortal enemy. THey have had many duels, with both able to claim small victories. Artemis is nearly Drizzt's equal in battle, and usually it's Drizzt's need to look out for his friends that Artemis exploits. Read any of the Dark Elf books by Bob Salvatore. Artemis shows up in most of them.

I heard that Artemis is in Icewind Dale, is that true? I'll just read some Drizzt books to learn more about him. Regarding the MDK2 summons, the summons are extremely powerful. They are armed with crazy ranged weapons and have a lot of level 1-8 spells.

I just read up on Drizzt's stats and 'special abilities'. My first impression was 'what a f'in joke'. My second was, 'why the heck is he so popular ?'
So that's what I'm asking basically. I've read some sample chapters of books featuring Drizzt, and I've picked some of them up at Barnes&Nobles, and flipped through them.
Personally, I believe the books are neither very intriguing, nor very well written. Why are there so many fans of the series ? I just want to see the thought processes of the people who read these books.

Death comes for you .... FEEL IT'S ICY BREATH !
Transcendent... Thank goodness you are in the minority. Salvatore's books are extremely well written and the flow from one series to the next is amazing. Unlike some fantasy writers out there, Salvatore doesn't have to be long winded to tell his story. There's plenty of action, and if you had read more than a "sampling" you would feel the same bond to his characters that all his fans do. Even the villain, Artemis Entreri, has his place and the parts of the books he is in wouldn't be the same without him. HOWEVER, if you don't get off on the ultimate Good VS. Evil plots, then chances are these books are not for you.
I would have to say that the only other fantasy writing I enjoy as much would be the Elminster books by Ed Greenwood. The only fantasy writing better would obviously be Tolkien.
just my opinion, but if you haven't read any of his work you are being critical just for the sake of being critical.

The same kind of thread was discussed a while ago and someone mentioned that Artemis Entreri was supposed to fight on Bodhi's side in the final battle against her. The one which Drizzt and others take part in.
Centuries ago in England........It was an era of chivalry and magic. The evil Prince John unleashed an iron fist of tyranny upon the people. They called out for a champion.........one man answered that call. His name, was Robin Hood. Fearless in his quest for justice Robin Hood challenged the power of the high warlords. While protecting the helpless and the poor. Willing to face death for what he believed, along with the beautiful, lady warrior, Jaheira, the mighty Minsc, and the wise Keldorn. Robin Hood forged a legend that lives on today in............
That was me. From what I've heard Entreri was *supposed* to do this. However, he was never implemented in the final version of the game.Originally posted by Robin_Hood:

Salvatore's books are a must for all BG players. Read them if you haven't already!
@humanflyz:
I sincerely doubt it, since Artemis isn't born at the time IWD takes place.

This is the second time you ask this very question. You've got no answer yet. Therefor, there is a slight possibilty that none of the persons who have read this thread knows the answer. And should this in fact be the case, posing the same question several times probably won't help you.Originally posted by Stoner Cold:

Astafas, are you talking about the Icewind Dale Trilogy, or the game? Artemis is in the Icewind Dale Trilogy. He is after Regis and travels all the way from Calimport to hunt him down.Originally posted by Astafas:

Not sure about IWD game, as far as the time setting is concerned.

He's popular because he's got tons of marketing money behind him, and because nobody bothers to reprint a lot of the older fantasy (pre-AD&D, when books weren't churned out to specifications by poorly paid hacks in a month's time) that would make Salvatore look silly.Originally posted by transcendent two:

It's also a case that most people want the lightest reading possible: just as pulp romance novels sell better than, say, Rafael Sabatini or Celine, so Salvatore sells better than fantasy that requires thought while reading--attention to brilliant detail, great narrative skill, etc.
But I'd agree, he's really not a good writer at all. Neither was Jakes, and his fantasy stuff twenty-five years ago sold far better than Leiber, de Camp, Vance, etc.
Just my POV.

I though humanflyz referred to the game (cause he wrote Icewind Dale and not Icewind Dale Trilogy), so this is what I was referring to as well.Originally posted by mikeheitz:

Transcendent... Thank goodness you are in the minority.
There's no reason to thank anything that someone is alone in disagreeing with you, or to think that the majority of people share your attitudes and tastes. But I was curious if the majority of people up here, some of whom clearly enjoy Salvatore, would let this kind of tone pass if it was aimed at them, instead of at their sole outspoken opponent.
In truth, I think Salvatore is a competent writer and little else. I certainly don't think less of people who read him, anymore than I think less of my wife who reads Joanna Lindsey romances. But I put it like I did, to test the waters.
Carry on.
