Ok, just what does one need to do in order to kill one? It's happened before. What situation do we have to be in to do it? Where must we strike? Anyone who is deep into D&D stuff, please say! (Note: special scenarios like the Time of Troubles don't count)

Just as a note, you'll probably get some answers, here, but you may get more down in the RPG or Dungeons & Dragons forums.

from what i know... nobody ever detailed how to kill a god...
nobody detailed the stats of a god on their plane of existence either...
and their avatars are already pretty much impossible to kill already with all their abilities and immunities. Examples are like having abilities like immunity to less than +3 weapons (which is near impossible to find in actual pen and paper D&D), magic immunity , insane amounts of damage dealt to opponent when hit by them, 9 magic missles per round wherever you want without taking into account other movement, bows that dont miss for 3 miles, teleportation, moving at will from one plane of existence to another, armies of spiders at a word, complete invisibility, regeneration, around 200 hitpoints... you get the idea...
for more info you could find the book (forgot what it is called) in game shops which detail info on forgotten realm gods
when i 1st saw the stats of avatars i was like
gods arnt meant to be killed i guess

How did Bhaal die, I know it's changing the subject a little bit but he's still a god isn't he, Any body bothered to read Appendix C of page MMXVXIIXCII to find out? mayber it would tell you. (personal note, never crack jokes).

Ao kicked all the gods out except for Helm, and it was at that point they were vulnerable.

As people have already posted, it's near impossible to even hurt a god for a mortal man. That's why most godslaying happens with the aid of other gods or by other gods.
I suppose you'd have to come with some offer in order to get the aid of a greater god...

So in order to kill a god, you have to become a god.
But how do gods kill each other? All those avatars cheesily teleport away at the last instant. How do you stop that?

cast doom on them a lot, then hold person? cheese, but they're gods, so they're allowed.

This is what happens when you try to apply logic and real physics to something that isn't.

Do a storm of vengence in the temples of the god you want to kil, and knock off the god's worshippers.
No worshippers, no gods.
This would be a problem for major gods like bhaal, but should work for demi gods and some of the gods.
Naturally you have to kill all the worshippers, but if you kill off enough, they should be easier to kill.

Killing off the worshippers won't kill the god, it will just weaken them to pre-Time of Troubles levels.

Yeah, and I think you guys are forgetting that a god can instantly resurrect as many people as he/she wants.
No. In order to kill a god you need to trick him. And with their supra-intelligence that's usually not that easy.
If some god has a problem with another god, and you just happen to have some great artifact that for instance binds the god to the Prime Material Plane or something, then there might be a slight chance to have a go with the god...just cross your fingers, that the gods allies don't get a whim of the little scheme...
Oh, and why you need another god of equal strengh as an ally: Gods have unlimited power (almost - the greater ones have) over mere mortals.
Think of our good friend Irenicus. All the trouble he went through to get the tree of life's power in order to become a god.
Think how much preperation in will take to actually kill another god - getting the power that way!

Gods can't shift to prime material plane if I remember right....the only exception was that time when they all were kicked out and had to walk the lands of mortal men....

Best way to kill a God, is to forget them. Since a God depends on followers, he/she will fade out of existence when forgotten...

@Stoner Cold: If even ordinary Rakshasas are immune to spells lvl 1-8, then why should an avatar be vulnerable to them?

Amaunator may be a good example... Not gone, but definitely forgotten.
