Morals & Ethics

May be it is my "Old fashioned upbrining" but I keep having qualms about some people I am sent to kill. For example the so called school teacher in Riften and then there is the "Giants" who to me don't seem to be hurting people, and then there is the stealing or pick-pocketing, there does not seem to be any penalty imposed as in other games such as "Fallout" and even in Baldur's Gate which to me had strong ethics, where you loose Karma and sent to prison for stealing or at the least you paid a fine??

You'll have to pay a fine, go to prison or fight your way to safety if you're caught doing crimes...

I don't mind the lack of morality points, it's essentially monetization of morals and ethics and is often poorly handed and doesn't really add anything to the games imo. In Skyrim you're allowed to decide for yourself what kind of character you'll be and then act accordingly - if you don't want to kill someone don't...

I know games are not supposed to be realistic (and I don't require them to be that either), but sometimes it's just too much how certain games throw (often very simplistic) morality in your face and fawn over every little decision you make.

Personally, I thought the karma system in Fallout 3 was the stupidest thing ever. In Skyrim, if you get caught you're in trouble, but if you don't then no one should know you've been stealing.
