Hi, guys.
The last quest for the Thieves' Guild is to hunt down the traitor Mercer. After you have killed him and grabbed all his stuff, where do you go? The water is raising and you need to get the **** out, FAST!! Please, help!!

When the water gets high enough, a tunnel will open up behind the big statue, allowing you to escape.

and as we were talking in another thread, if you do not grab the key the ceiling will not cave in for you to escape.
