Dual Class and Proficiencies

I have a question regarding dual classing:

When we dual class from a fighter to a thief, for example, when we regain the fighter levels, can we still reach grand-mastery with a weapon, or add 3 points in Two Weapon Style, or are we limited to the Thief's proficiency levels? Thanks!

(On a related note: I think my Baldur's Gate gaming experience has been limited to the character creation screen).

Yes, but only in weapons that a thief can use (IIRC). That's one of the things that make dual classing so powerful, as opposed to multiclass where you advance in both levels but are restricted to 2 points each. If you have Anomen in your party, for example, he only levels up as a cleric, but you can still max out his proficiencies. This makes him far more useful for someone like me who likes to just point and charge, without tons of buffing first :D

Oh, that opens up a crazy number of possibilities! That means that I can make a Kensai in BG1, give him proficiencies in weapons that are common in BG1 (throwing daggers comes to mind) and then go for grand mastery in katanas ing BG2.

Thanks! :D
