Last spring or year I saw a news article on GB showcasing a new mod in Morrowind that the video of it looked breathtaking.

Does anyone know if this is finished yet?

You're probably thinking of the Morrowind 2011 project (or whatever it was called). Basically it was just a compilation of popular mods.

Unfortunately, the project was canceled after complaints about distribution from individual modders, if I recall correctly. You can still download all sorts of individual mods for Morrowind, though, to get the exact same effect:

1) The Morrowind Graphics Extender does most of the work - distant terrain, modern effects like HDR/depth of field/etc.

2) Vegetation mods to add grass and more impressive foliage. The MGE is required to use most of these. Check Planet Elder Scrolls and the Elder Scrolls Nexus for most of the popular ones.

3) Texture and model updates. There are tons of packs available that replace everything in the game. Check the same sites mentioned above.

There really isn't anything else to say, other than you will need to figure out how to set up MGE to get the results you want. Its interface is not perfect and some settings are not 100% intuitive, so you will have to read the documentation available to get the most out of it.

I'm not sure which mod you are precisely referring to since there are a number, I believe. However, you may find this page helpful:

I'm considering this overhaul mod myself, though not sure I can run it:

I think you may be referring to MGE. It is breathtaking. Even if you don't have a modern PC it's a step up in both framerate and graphic quality, since it adds support for basic Direct3D and OpenGL rendering (simply put, videocards) that the original lacked completely. Everybody benefits from MGE.

I tried the 2011 one, but I must have miss-installed it unfortunately. Gonna put it on the back burner and try again, maybe some of the others people have linked or mentioned.

Thanks :)

Claudius, I strongly recommend you check out the links I posted.. I just successfully installed the Morrowind Sound and Graphics Overhaul by Kingpix. It's incredible! I've seriously been wandering the game with my jaw hanging open. This is the first time I've ever tried an MGE based overhaul mod; I had no idea the game could look *this* amazing.

It looks beautiful.

I had to do this (which I did on a different game) to get it with this procedure:

Navigate to C:\Program Files (x86)\Steam\steamapps\common\morrowind\

(something like that, but you are looking for the exe.

Ok right click the exe and properties. Click compatibility tab. put XP SP3 compatibility. check boxes disable visual themes, desktop composition, run as administrator xp...

Not sure if all of that was necessary, but otherwise I only got a black screen though the task manager said it was running.

For now I am trying to beat niobium in sacred 2, but I am excited to give Morrowind a try.
