"Memory less than 15 MB" problem

Okay, so I know this is a common problem, and I've googled my ass off, but I just can't find a solution. If there's anyone who doesn't know the problem, it's this: when I try to start the game (from Steam) an error message pops up saying I have less than 15 MB memory, which is of course, not the case. I understand anyone who has a certain amount of memory or more gets this annoying message.

I don't know what to do. I've installed the latest unofficial patch, but it doesn't help. Can you?

Strange. The unofficial patch is supposed to fix the problem. You did install it to the right game directory, I assume?

I suppose it's possible I installed it incorrectly (I'm really bad at technical stuff...). What exactly am I supposed to do, to get it right?

If you've seen one installer, you've seen them all. Download the patch, execute it. The installer learns in advance in which directory you have put the game, but it probably will give you a chance to double check before you give the all clear to install.

It's possible the installer asks you for a specific directory. If you have the game in a different location than normal, i.e. the Steam version or a custom games folder, you'll need to point the installer in the right direction. But, it's been a bit since I played the game and used the unofficial patch, so I can't recall if that's an option.

Yes, this is exactly the case.
