I am having a heck of a time beating them. Been a longtime since I made it this far through SoA. Anyhow, my party:

PC: R/C (FoA, DoE)
Minsc (Axes+3 forget names or Elven Bow Arrows +2)
Imoen
Aerie
Kelsey (LVL 6 Spells: True Sight, Chain Lightning. LVL 7 Mirror Image)

They are casting Insta Death spells and NPCs start dying. I tried:

Move everybody out of room. Have summoned creature walk across to activate. Kelsey cast Web, fire of magic missles hoping to disrupt, fire with arrows for fast quick hits, have PC attack when they walk to door. This has me only having to deal with the bottom, two. I managed to get one down to badly injured. Then the insta death and 3 NPCs gone, one held, and my PC fighting for himself.

Well, regarding the insta-death - Aerie should be able to cast the Death Ward, which protects from death magic
Remember to buff up before you rush in, protecion from fear , evil and the death wards, protection from level drain etc, and summon a lot of help, haste everybody and remember to use the various potions and wands
I usually have a lot of problems regarding demon knights as well, the really know how to hit hard!

If Kelsey knows Spell Immunity (and if not, I recommend he learns it; it's very useful), you can use that to protect him if you know what spell is instakilling you. I forgot what the demonknights liked to use, but I thought it was finger of death. If you have to, you can pick up a scroll if one of the merchants around the Underdark has one. Once you have that, immunity to fire, and protection from magic weapons, Kelsey might be able to tank them by himself while the rest of the party cuts them all down.

As has been noted, Aerie has death ward to protect the rest of the party, maybe even Kelsey as well. If you can protect the whole party from instadeath this way and resist fire, you should be able to take these guys.

Made it through finally with a bit of luck. I lost Minsc, but he can be resurrected.Good loot, tough suckers.
