Hello all.

I can't get Throne of Bhaal to load. I installed the expansion pack half way through SOA no problem, noticed some changes and had the tower added to the map. After the final battle in Hell I got some movies and then a screen that says to insert the expansion CD.

I know my CD drive is working as I have tested it with other disks and I can view the contents of the TOB CD just fine manually. I tried to reinstall from the disk but can not find a way. I keep getting a pop up asking if I want to uninstall.

I have closed everything down and just tried starting TOB and the same message about inserting the expansion CD comes up. I'm at a loss. The CD seemed to install the expansion pack as there were some changes to the game play half way through SOA although I never did try to go to Watchers Keep after installing it.

Anyone know a fix or what might happen if I uninstall TOB to my final save?

Thank you for the reply. It looks like I installed a patch for TOB with 26498_english as the name. Is there another patch that I'm missing?

The game doesnt look for a CD. It looks for locations listed in baldur.ini

CD5:=C:\Games\BGII\CD5\

Nowadays, with larger hard drives, just copy the content of the CD5 (tob) into the bg2 folder and enter the path in baldur.ini as shown above, alternatevely add the cd path, separated with a semicolon. Alternatevely it may be the cd check protection not being able to find the correct cd drive, if you have multiple. In this case either remove the extra CD drives, or remove the protection.

Looking at c/program files (x86)/black isle/bgIIsoa in that folder there is a CD5 folder currently.

Looking at my drive I see four baldur.ini files, two are the original game. The second two both say BGII SoA, and are in different locations on the drive.
One located at C/program files (x86)/black isle/BGIISoA and when opened there is a line referencing CD5 but it is different (shorter) than the lines referencing the other CD's.
The second one is C/users/xxxxx/appdata/local/virtualstore/program files (x86)/black isle/BGIISoA and when opened it does not have a line referencing CD5.

Hopefully I'm making sense with this. Should I add an identical line to the file missing a reference to cd5?

I just modified both INI files so the CD5 line looks like the others and added it to the one that it was missing from and all is well.

Its generally not a good idea to install more user oriented stuff into program files in Win7, probably vista too. Mind you it is very possible, but especially with older games can lead to a lot of problems. For protection reasons this folder has limited access rights, im surprised you could even alter baldur.ini. And it also looks like there is a rights conflict, the installation program couldnt get the right to write, hehe. Newer games store their modifiable game data like saves or settings under \my documents\ thus no problem. I would actually recommend reinstall to a more normal location, but if it works, it works. It certainly is not impossible.

I always install my games directly onto the C: drive. So when it asks you were to install, just manually edit it to C:/Baldur's Gate, for example. And I've never had these kinds of problems.
