After about.. oh more than 20 full play-through(s) of the OC (alone):
I finally got Qara to side with me against the King of Shadows.. didn't think it was possible, but this time I totally plugged all the answers she wanted in conversation AND specifically got most of the site-specific Influence points she had. As alluded to in Gamebanshee's walkthrough - Sand ended-up betraying me (with good but not excellent Influence points with him). Sand claimed she was a bigger threat than the King of Shadows (..yeah, writers didn't think that dialog through very well.. )
Qara.. end-battle (spoiler alert).
Yes - by design she is a spoiled brat (..and the choice of voice-actor was excellent for this effect).
That Sand would betray for this reason, or in fact any reason is absurd. (..His only real paranoia is Luskan/Hostower - and he recognized that the King of Shadows was by far the greater threat.)
Really, I don't even think there is any personal reason that Qara would either. Worse, the only reason she doesn't betray you in this sequence is because Sand does first. In other words her only reason for staying with the group against the King of Shadows is because Sand is with the King of Shadows.
The writing in both respects was poor.
What they *should* have done was had a "tie-in" with Qara's "elemental animus" touching her and corrupting her, with some "tale-tell" actions along the way (provided you continue to have her in your party) that express some wavering loyalties on her part (..similar to if different than Bishop). Perhaps adding in the ability to "fix" her only if she is in your party and certain conditions were met.

My first playthrough most of my guys rushed and got trapped in the shields. I had one guy left and he sniped her with a wand of magic missiles haha.
Right Speech has four aspects: 1. Not lying, but speaking the truth, 2. Avoiding rude and coarse words, but using gentle speech beneficial to the listener, 3. Not slandering, but promoting friendliness and unity, 4. Avoiding frivolous speech, but saying only what is appropriate and beneficial.

Yup.. they always betrayed me before. I can get Bishop to *not* side with Garius though.. (..just go the non-insipid diplomacy route - even if you fail he won't attack as long as you have decent Influence points with him.)
I also liked Neeshka's "waffling" based on Influence points with her. Sometimes it's high enough, sometimes not. The "ughhhh" she exclaims on the last Influence check for betrayal/non-betrayal is really funny - sounds like she is wrestling with a large grumpy on the toilet.

Yeah, I always take-out the betrayer's first (..even "buffed-up" they are often easier to kill than Garius). Also I have each respective tank (closest to one side of the shield or the other) make a break for it out to the far left or right of the battle circle as their first action at the start of the battle. (..then the AI for each can find their way over to whichever enemy remains (which is usually Garius).
