has anyone ever been able to save these guys? They die awful quick, do they sell any secret items if you do save them?

Only played through TOB once but I saved the merchant (this is the map with the cabin?)and he sold me some stuff cheap don't think there was anything unique (maybe an extra potion case?) - Not much help and possibly not accurate. - Curdis

IIRC, he sells a lot of +1,+2 and +3 "vanilla"
weapons (garbage in ToB
)
He also sells a black (obsidian ?) ioun stone that grants +1 to your constitution.
This can be used for a good old cheesy insta-healing, depending on your constitution value and your class - just keep un-equipping and re-equipping it!!!

No, I don't mean that merchant, there are like 3 other merchants that gets killed real real fast. Those merchants, I ALMOST saved one of them last time, but it didn't work out in the end.

Still cluless to what merchants you mean.
Perhaps you could give some more info, like to where it is in the story (watch out for spoilers!) and how the enviroment looks.

When you first enter the North Forest, there is a gropu of merchants being attacked by Yaga-Shura goons, only one is named and that is the only one I've managed to save. But there are at elast 3 other merchants that is alive when you first see them, but they die off incredibly fast. Has anyone ever saved any of those merchants?

He sells a rod of Ressurection. Good if you started the game in ToB.

No, not that merchant. Does anyone know which one I'm talking about? Someone out there must've saved at least one of them.
North forest, first time, soldiers harassing a bunch of merchants, they're all named 'Merchant' except for one. The uniquely named one is easy enough to save. I'm talking about saving the merchants named 'Merchant'.

I don't remember saving the other merchants, but why don't you Ctrl+Y all the bad guys and post the results?
To guarantee that no killing is made out of sight, use a character wearing that armor that acts like boots of speed, the boots of speed and baldurash's patch... You'll arrive anywhere REALLY fast...

I've tried the same thing when I soloed as a knight errant. Vanilla paladin. Couldnt do it. I had boots of speed and went smite crazy, couldnt whack all the bad guys. The prblem is the merchants al get killed by archers. I dont think you can save them. Buts thats just my opinion

Anyone tried casting protection from missiles on the merchants to stop the arrows hitting them.
Alternatively you could try a time stop as soon as you get on the screen, then move up and cast massive amounts of comet spells in the area, comet or indeed dragons breath are exellent for this because they don't hurt friendlies or neutrals.
