Some beginner tips from a veteran player.
Hi guys. My name is Bee and I've been playing Baldur's Gate at the highest difficulty for two weeks now. If you are a beginner, these tips will greatly help you with chapter one of the game. I wanted to create a walk through but considering how this game is the kind that can be finished in several fashions, I figured I ought to just give some general, and UNIVERSAL guidelines that applies for however you play the game in Chapter One.
Tip # 1 When dealing with an enemy that you can't beat, use guerilla tactics. What I mean by that is, attack, and then run away. Rest. And then attack again. Repeat until the enemy dies. Cambion, a strong demonic enemy in chapter one is a great victim.
Tip # 2 Learn to rely on luck. Sometimes all it takes is a second try of the same tactic to be able to succeed. This especially applies when you first attack Cambion and have the initial running away. The traps are set up to kill you, but with more than one try, you may survive... And perhaps a slight tweak of tactic can make all the difference.
Tip # 3 Kill the two inactive golems in chapter one as early as possible. The great thing about the Baldur's Gate series is the game's interactiveness. You can kill NPCs if you wish (though it's not optimal to do it often). With this, you must kill the two NPC golems that you encounter as early as you can so that they won't ambush you when you... well, I won't spoil the story. They can be found together in one room past the one golem who is supposedly responsible for the sewers.
Tip # 4 When you meet Yoshimo in chapter one, you will encounter four bat-producing machines. Ignore the bats that are attacking you and simply destroy the machines as soon as you can. Destroying the machines will automatically kill off the flying bats. Plus, you get two thousand or so experience points for each kill.
Hope this helps.
