The fun of pick pocketing and burglary

Hi everyone, this is your friendly bard, the one and only, great, musically gifted me and my tales of pick pocketing and burglary through out Icewind Dale.

Okay, so I admit I have a small, tiny problem besides having to always sing in verse and turn everything into a heroic tale, I enjoy seeing what people have in their pockets. You remember Biblo (from The Hobbit) when he asked the question to Gollum whats was in his pocket...well I have this urge to always find out what people have in their pockets, so here is my short tale of pick pocketing.

Easthaven the starting point of our adventure in this frigid north, personally I think we were nuts to come all the way up here for an adventure but since it came to a vote and I lost (wanted some sun and sand) here we are up here where everyone is covered in furs. So our tale of adventure starts off very slowly, and while wandering around town I have to admit I tried pick pocketing several people and you know what I came up with - lint - absolutely nothing of interest, not even a coin for my troubles... but my close friend Hayate (our thief) did happen to wander up a certain annoying shop owners living quarters and happen to liberate a few coins, a jewel, a good dagger, and a few scrolls(* laugh* which we sold back to him *laugh*).

Kuldahar Pass - Battling the goblins, and find a group of orcs (in the upstairs of some house) there we bluffed the orcs (which allowed us to avoid a battle) and we settled on a semi-friendly truce. So as we departed the upstairs room where we found the orcs, I pick pocketed the orc leader and surprisingly found some good things. The girdle of beautification which gives a permanent Bless spell on the user is such an incredible item to pick pocket from an orc leader. Who would have thought that you could actually pick pocket a girdle from an orc or that an orc would wear one - we are still laughing at that... I even tried pick pocketing the crazy goblin but all he had was a dead mice (not really but as a bard I have literary freedom)...oh well....on to Kuldahar.

Kuldahar, if you haven't been here is a tiny farming hamlet which has many unusual things here, for example it has its own wizard with his own tower, its own gnome inventor who is somewhat crazy I think, its own great druid, a temple with real priests that can heal and best of all a tavern where I can sing for my drinks. In this tiny hamlet, there were many opportunities for me to see what everyone kept in their pockets. The gnome, had a lot of things in his pockets: a necklace that was magical, lots of interesting potions and a ring that gave off an eldritch glow, going to have to figure what it is - don't want to accidentally turn into a piglet or something. The druid who was friendly, had a nice rice of free action, no more getting stuck in webs and tangles for me, actually I got one from the wizard as well and now I can share one with my favorite thief. The wizard, who for me is a bit long winded, also had a necklace but sadly none of us could really benefit from its use yet - something to look forward to in the future. The most interesting thing about this small hamlet was the halfling who forged a will and tried to steal an inn...we settled things with him in a most satisfactory way, by the way if you are ever up around here and need a place to stay just say my name at the inn for a nice going rate from him.

The next bit of liberating goods happens when we meet the frost giants...yes I still remember that pass and what they did, so a bit of payback was in order. Hayate (my friend with the tendency to walk away with things not nailed down) just happen to liberate everything that the giants owned. They big galoots didn't even notice a very small thief going through all their goods and it was a nice haul liberating their ill gotten gains, how do I know it was ill gotten, well everything was either too small for them to use, wear or drink, so in other words it must have belonged to someone else.

Overall, if you just happen to be wandering all the way up here in the frozen north and have a tendency to liberate items from people or houses my advice is don't bother, since I've taken everything already, but if you are clever who knows what you may find if you just happen to wander north to this very cold piece of land...

Can I just say how awesome it is to read some more threads of someone going through the magic of Icewind Dale and loving every minute! All hail the best RPG ever!

I must admit, I've heard about the various goodies available in Kuldahar before. Although I've never invested in the PP skill in any of my play-throughs ever, apparently the Rings of Freedom in particular are worth all the effort. I always try my best not to get in the reload mindset when I play so the PP skill has always proven too high a risk factor for my style. What I haven't heard of before though is the awesome Girdle of Beautification (one of the best items of the game) being pickable from the Orcs (I can't remember if they drop it if you kill them anyway?), so that's a great spot!

I'm not sure if anyone's ever picked 'every' character in the game, and I should think there's an awful lot of nothing out there, but, at the same time, there's probably tuns that even the most hardcore player doesn't even know exist. The secret society area as a whole springs to mind as a good 'unreknown' spot to do lots of investigatory PPing with potential!
