To patch or not to patch?

I just added ToB and am finishing up, ready to start ch 7 or Watcher's Keep. Should I install the official patch **498 or the beta **499, or what? I've heard the patch may slow saves/loads and the beta fixes that, but wondering if I'd be better off leaving it unpatched.

Another alternative is to use the Balderdash patch that I was using before adding ToB? This Fixpack worked great before, but I used the uninstaller prior to installing ToB. Should I reinstall it? Does the ToB add-on fix most of the known bugs, or what?

Thanks for any suggestions or cautions.

I'd certainly patch ToB with the *498 patch. If you run into the problems the *499 patch was designed for, install that one too (*499 doesn't change any ingame patches, iirc). Next, proceed with the ToB Fixpack, available at Baldurdash.

Thanks Geert, That's about what my intended plan was. Just wondering if any of the patches caused more problems than they fix.

Any other feedback welcome.

I can't think of any patch that does. You should always install the latest official patches. I would strongly reccomend you install the 99 patch after 98 as well, problems or no.
