Backstab questions

1. Which weapons can be used to backstab with a multi fighter/thief? I have gotton messages that certain weapons are inappropriate for a backstab, such as the Celestial Fury. Is there a list or description somewhere?

2. Can a dual-weild backstab? If so, what classes and with what weapons?

3. Any differences in weapons allowed for backstab with thief, fighter-thief, or ranger? Any other classes that can backstab?

4. How high can the damage multiplier for backstab go. I think I remember seeing 5x. Is that the limit?

Any answers would be appreciated.

Any that a single class theif can
_____________

And where are those listed? They are not in the manuals for SoA or ToB. A thief can use a quarterstaff but can he backstab with it?

Valygar comes with Katanas and skills in it, but can he backstab with them?

If a theif gains use any item ability, can he then backstab with them?

Curious minds want to know these things. ;-)

Yes, yes, no, yes

Or, more precisely ( :D ), you can backstab with any melee weapon Thieves can use without Use Any Item. Quarterstaves are among those, but the Staff of the Magi is not, since it's flagged as "mages only".

Valygar can backstab with katanas (since they're "Thief melee weapons"), but his own Corthala Family Blade is an exception (makes sense, huh? ;) ).

Not sure about that Xyx. As I understood it, thieves can backstab with bladed weapons only. Hard to backstab with a lump of wood. Unless it had a large splinter or something. Um. Oh, and Valygar can backstab with his family blade. It's just a katana like any other.

Oh, and you cannot backstab wielding two weapons at once. Odd, that.

If I'm right, you have misunderstood what Xyx
is saying.
It's like this: Valygar can backstab with his katana, as with any other katana (weapon
allowed to thieves).
But ANOTHER thief can't backstab with Valygar's blade, simply 'cause it's restricted to him.
This other thief could USE it with use any
item, but cannot backstab with it.
He can backstab with "normal" katanas, but
again, I think Celestial Fury is normally
restricted to fighter types (now I'll check) , so again he can only use it with use any item.
I think this makes sense after all! :p :p

No, Littiz, I think Xyx has it right.

You can only backstab with a weapon normally useable as a theif, which is why staff of the magi won't work. I think what Xyx is saying is that Valygar's katana is flagged as "Valygar only", and so no one can backstab with it 'cause it's not useable by theives.

And btw, yes, you can backstab with a blunt weapon, like a normal quarterstaff (blackjack maybe?)

Okay, I'll throw in my 2 cents, Valygars family katana can't be used for backstabbing because of a bug. You can backstab while dual-weilding, you can use the staff mace for backstabbing with dualclass theifs, and two handed weapons (quarterstaffs) can't be used. Stalkers can backstab up to 4x (contrary to the kit description).

ya can backstab with blunt weapons. i'm vaguely upset that the best backstabs come from blunt weapons rather than the blades.... such bs
*weeps a bit*
i'm pretty sure you can dual wield backstab, just use the proper weapons and a spell that keeps you invis when you attack.
kinda makes ya wanna try a thief/mage multi or dual so you can mislead and go nuts. assasination? who needs it.

Ok Masteraleph, maybe my english is bad, but we are saying exactly the same thing :)

@Littiz
nope, I was saying that i think Xyx is right...Valygar cannot backstab with his katana, because it is not marked useable by theives. The fact that it's useable by him doesn't matter, the weapon must be useable by thieves for anyone to backstab with it

Ops, sorry, didn't understand that Valygar can't backstab with his own weapon!!!(never taken him)
I was referring to the mechanics of the "backstab permission" for normal thieves,
and this, as you have said, explains even why
Valygar can't backstab with his OWN sword! ;)

I have A Stalker dual wielding the Blakrazor long sword and he's gotten up to 110 damage. So you can backstab while dual wielding.

@DaJir
Who needs mage abilities? Use Any Item and scrolls of Mislead would surely be equally effective.

scrolls are limited and everyone knows magic makes everything better. :D
and you can use that mislead/backstab stuff with a mage/thief a hell of alot earlier and ya don't need TOB. On top of that you also get invis, shadow door, improved invis for those multiple backstabs in one fight. You could run around a corner and hide in shadows to do it, but thats not always possible. be'n able to improved haste yourself is always a plus too.
