He was 27th level Mage while Irenicus was 29th and still he was not openly contesting the power of Isair and Madae
Then why is Irenicus considered to be a very powerful foe while Isair and Madae not?
And what was the spell of Orrick the Grey which instantly killed you lest you tried to be sneaky with him?

Well first orick was a human, secound the time of troubles had not happened yet so serten gods were aligned with isair and madae, third irenicus studied immortality and destruction magic while orrick studied mythals.

Just a small note: the events in both of the Icewind Dale games are AFTER the Time of Troubles. In fact, the first Icewind Dale game seems to be taking place around the same time as Baldur's Gate, where Sarevok is amassing power (one of the peasants at Kuldahar has this information).

As stated in the official lore icewind dale took place around 1267, 2 took place thirty years latter, and the time of troubles takes place in 1360 something, there for officialy bane was alive in icewind dale 2 but dead in baldurs gate 2, and more importantly in baldurs gate 1 you are around lvl 20 when you fight irenicous and in icewind dale 2 you are around lvl 30 when you get to the twins.

No, at normal difficulty we are at party level 15-16 when we face Isair and Madae. It's just that the incredible amount of spell variety in Baldur's Gate 2 ( Pierce Magic, Spell Immunity, Spell Shield, Breach, Dispek Magic for example)was not present in Icewind Dale 2
I think Orrick's spell was better than Jon's Rapture of the Feather

And where is it written that gods were with I & M?
Ichyatu Xvim was a half god and very weak compared to the true gods. Bane was not directly related to I & M.

Worshipers of bane were on the legion of the chimeras side, and since he was alive at that point they were stronger, also back to the original question orick was probably about 70 in ice wind dale 2 and irenicus was about 700 in baldurs gate. Also demons and devils have a tendency to be stronger then most gods

So the levels mean nothing? That dangerous spell if Orrick which drained you of 599 hit points was a piece if cake?
Demons and Devils are stronger than Gods?
Can I have sources please?
As far as I know, only Asmodeus, Demogorgon, Grazzt and Orcus can contest the gods. And they too not fully.

The forgotten realms wiki is my source, most gods are lesser deities and would be slaughtered by the demons and devils you named, also Asmodeus is probably stronger then some of the greater deities, back to your original question irenicus had a divine soul in his body at the end of bg2, he is also a full blood elf, the twins are only about 29 yeats old and are half elf half demon.
So irenicus is stronger then orick because he is older and elven, also he has elf magic which is older and stronger then weave magic which orick has. The twins on the other hand are young and un trained in there powers, had they had about 30 more years before trying to takeover the north they would have made it as far south at baldurs gate before the gods destroyed them.

As a side note some of what i say is based off what i know about the characters that im talking about, also orick didn't care what was going on during icewind dale so if he was alive in icewind dale 2 he probably still didn't care

But Irenicus is shown raven haired. Is he a Moon Elf?

Irenicus was an elf, end of story really. When BG was developed they deliberately kept most of the back-ground generic so as to appeal to AD&D players of all kinds, whether they'd played in the Forgotten Realms or not. Unless you went round reading the books in the game you'd rarely know what alternative reality you where in. I am assuming the books are FRcentric as I've never actually bothered reading any of them.

The only occurrence of non-generic elves I can think of off hand is Aerie, and there's also references to Tieflings, including of course the inclusion of Haer'Dalis, but generally FRcentric background is very much just that. Personally I never got into FR outside CRPGs so I don't actually give a toss about 'Lore. I also hate Turd Edition with a passion, so never played IWD2, but trying to compare characters from different games, with different rule sets and across different time zones within the alternative reality is about as meaningful as comparing Ty Cobb with Barry Bonds or even less so!

At the end of SOA during a movie sequence irenicus appears to have removed his ears and hair and sewn on some kind of leather

Yeah that is a weird sequence, he actually looks more like Frankenstein's Monster than an Elf, and I strongly suspect that might not be a coincidence. Maybe he couldn't figure out how to cast the Clone spell so went in for brain transplant instead!? :D

I'd say that whole "leather over the face" thing was probably a result of his...experiments...into getting back his immortality. You have to remember that Bodhi went so far as becoming a vampire to try to stave off death. I'm sure Irenicus had his share of dark rituals under his belt by the time he crossed paths with the Bhallspawn.
