Hearthfire

So I download the DLC "Hearthfire" and I build two houses. Let's face it,after 1060 hours of play I am a millionaire so what else do you do with your money.
In these houses I have display cabinets, fine, except I cannot get anything into the dam things. I open the cabinet and select an item, hit the "R" key and where does it go BEHIND ME. So far I have not been able to get one item of weaponry or armour into a display case. Is there a special trick that I am missing??? and the other thing that is driving me crazy is I can't get rid of the work benches. Silly isn't it.
As a final comment the reason I am playing so long is that in the DLC Dawnguard you have two great quest givers. Mind you trying to level up at 64 is like walking through sludge.
