hi folks. I tried setting up some portraits but haven't got it right. The pack I am trying to add has Large and Small portraits but no medium. When I try and use the ones I want there is a box for a large picture which only shows one far corner of the image, and a small one thet is missing about the bottom quarter of the shot.

Please, can you recommend some portrais and how to set them up for a good set that suits the Icewind Dale theme?

Are you sure these are IWD1 portraits? All you need is a Large one and a Small one. Are they rectangular in shape, or square? Square ones are for IWD2.
How do they turn up in-game?

Icewind Dale only needs one large and one small portrait.
The large ones should measure about 110x170 px, the small ones 36x58.

I think it works even if they're a bit bigger or smaller than that, but the aspect ratio needs to be the same in order for those portraits to fit.
