While "mod" is often used as a shorthand for "moderation" oder "moderator" on message boards like this one, in Neverwinter Nights (1 & 2) it usually refers to a "module".
A module is, simply put, a part of the game that you play through; an adventure. String several along, and you've got yourself a "campaign".
For example, the NWN2 campaign consists of several modules, each representing an act in the game.
You can find lots of different modules online, created by other users. Ssome are long, some short, some feature lots of battles, some only few etc.
The modular structure of the NWN series is what set it's apart from e.g. the Baldur's Gate games. Especially in how a your character(s) in the game are not really tied to a certain adventure; you can them with you from one module to the next, if you like to.
Or, like the wiki puts it: "Modules are self-contained game files that hold all of the gameplay information for a particular adventure. "
That been any help to you?

It also stands for modification. That is content added to the game such as different gameplay, new skins for monsters, added detail such as needing food and drink in oblivion.

I'm not really up to date concerning the mod scene...but I think the
Neverwinter Vault still features the biggest collection of them.
Can't give any particular recommendations I'm afraid, but try looking around on the site a bit for modules that fit your playing style and come with high rankings.
Or maybe someone else here will chime in with some recommendations.
But you could probably simply do a google search for "favorite nwn2 mods" and find out what other players on the internet like.

Neverwinter Vault has so much content it can be rather intimidating.
http://neverwinter2.nexusmods.com//? Is a good alternative especially for NWN2. It hosts the NWN remake mods for Baldur's Gate and Icewind Dale.

I heard NWN2 Baldur's Gate Reloaded is good.
It says you have to have MOTB and SOZ installed though.
I have made a thread called MOTB For Mac.
Where the f*** can I find Neverwinter Nights 2 Mask Of The Betrayer And Neverwinter Nights 2 Storm Of Zehir on Mac??????!!!!!!!!!
