Ascension mod: Balthazar dialogue dead-end?

Hello alls

I'm having a problem with Balthazar's convo with the Ascension mod; right after I click on the response "But I'm (good blah blah)!", the thing just hangs. I'm chaotic good with rep 20 and CHR 18 (WIS 18 from potion).. (I assume this convo should work with any 'good' aligned PC, right?) I suppose it's possible the Ascension mod (I also installed the v1.4 patch for it) is not liking some other patches I might've installed before. :/ Too many for me to keep track of, though. Suggestions? Should I just uninstall the entire Ascension now? Bleh ...

TIA

Did you install any custom items after adding Ascension? I noticed that this causes the game to crash. The solution is rather simple though:

Because Ascension drops a new dialog.tlk into your override folder, it messes up with any other mods you have installed that modify the dialog.tlk file. I solved the problem like this:

- backup your original dialog.tlk (main BG dir)
- go to \override
- move the dialog.tlk you find there to your main BG folder (MOVE it, don't just copy the file, as that won't work)
- Add the custom items/mods once again.

I guess you have a not-english version of the game.
The Ascension's Readme states that in this case the game crashes
in the Balthazar's dialogue. To prevent it you have to (temporarily)
remove the dialogF.tlk from the BG2 dir (this is the file used
for female characters)

thx

Thanks for the suggestions; I definitely have an English copy of the software, so it must be mods-not-playing-nicely-with-each-other. I'll try Mega's proposal, since I think I did add some custom stuff after installing Ascension. ;)

There is a much easier way around the problem. When Balthazar confronts you, spit in his face and challenge the cowardly dog. When he foolishly engages you in combat, grind him into the dirt.

Thus you don't need to worry about banter with the fool, only whether you shall recruit the superior ally later.

@Quitch: But that all depends on your alingment...

Eh? Alignment? There is only one path.

Doesn't Bohdi only join when you're evil-aligned?
Or do you always play evil? ;)

Good, neutral, evil....fah! There are the weak and the strong. Bodhi joins the predators, Balthazar joins the prey.

Then I guess in my game the prey kicked the predator's behind. :D

The predators probably slipped in the vast lake of your blood. It happens from time to time.

The only blood I saw was dripping *our* swords and not theirs (and, no, we don't cut ourselves ;) ).

With eye sight that poor I'm surprised you saw them coming at all.
