I'm up to day 50 odd and still doing as many sub plots and quests as possible in chapter 3. however I'm getting a little concerned about having left Imoen in the hands of Irenicus for over 2 months....

Is there any time limit in getting Imoen back or for that matter, in the whole game???

No there's no time limit. Take as long as you want.

I think there is a limit in how long you stay in Chapter 2, but not in chapter 3. Correct me if I am wrong...

I once did chapter 2 with straight sorc and did watchers keep befoer heading off to brynlaw...

man that keep is hard!! not hte beasties, but all the loot had to be carried out every level, and so I resolved never do that again without bag o holding

if you consider how long the jahier a romance alone is, you need the long time...

The Jaheira romance is the most trying (my opinion) of all the quests and requiring the most patience. The most irritating romance is Viconia. I did all the right things even up to the very last when I said I needed her for the quest and she agreed to stay. Do two nice things for people, poof she's gone. Not to mention whoever wrote the script for her must have had a really passive-aggressive relationship with somebody that just made them crazy!!

It's not about 'nice things', this has more to do with your rep.
If it's higher than 18, any evil character will leave. (And Vici is baaaaad)
I believe there is some cheat/file online somewhere, preventing her (and the rest) to leave.
