I'm unsure of who should get wot equipment in my party...

Me...Undead Hunter..use Holy Avenger...no problem
Nalia...uses a nifty bow
Aerie..Sling and Staff o Magi
Jaheira...Blackblood Club

Now its Minsc and Mazzy I'm unsure about.... i planned to equip Minsc dual wielding mace of disruption and sumething else...is it possible to dual wield two different types...e.g. could I use mace of disruption and crom faeyr???

Mazzy. I dont like short swords but I'm not sure wot to build up her proficiency in...i could give her skill in hammers and give her crom faeyr....or I could give her ability in long swords as there seem to be plenty of nice ones around....

Without a second thought: Give Mazzy Crom, girdle of fortitude and boots of speed. Did it once and specialized her in warhammers and the result was amazing. Since she has low STR and high DEX Crom's the way to go, put on gauntlets of weapon skill / spec / expertise and there she goes and whacks second to none. She probably outpowers even Korgan that way because she is a superskilled ranged fighter too - don't forget backup bracers of archery to switch with the gauntlets if going ranged. Last but not least her lay on hands comes in handy sometimes.

hmmm....that wud mean i make no use of longswords in the game....r u sure minsc is a bad choice with crom??

mazzie is serioulsy underrated, if I didnt like her personality she is my FIRST choice as a primary tank...too goody goody, minsc is funnier.

try giving her grand mastery in axe, if you pick her up late in chapter 2 she has grand amstery in shortbow only, and with good str enhancer she rocks in axes, and the nice thing is you can switch from frost reaver to rifthome axe in one click and take full advantage of her ranged skillsthen switch over to tulgan bow to fill the area with arrows...

her champion str spell allows her to run most of the game WITHOUT str enhancing items, until you get some good ones, and her remove fear is very useful if you forgot to use resist fear and got accidentally symbol feared, without pre battle prep.

My Minsc dualwilded Crom Faeyr and either a Mace or an Axe throughout the game (I gave him axe prof on the level ups to match my Baldur´s Gate I Minsc). Before I got the Crom, he wielded 2 Axes or 1 Axe and 1 Mace.
I kept him this way through Throne of Bhaal too, and he was responsible for almost 45% of my kills.

I am finally in a game where I am picking up mazzy for the first time. In all my previous games, I used very sparingly, if at all. Your putting up a convincing arguement and i look forward to picking her up.

Can't underestimate the girdle of fortitiude. I use it all the time for aerie and/or viconia. Have you used the cheat of using the girdle of fortitude for aerie, dropping it in your bag of holding, and then pulling it back out and using it for viconia. It used to work although with all the patches I'm running, maybe they fixed that bag of holding bug where it recharges items.

Minsc is not a bad choice, but Mazzy gets a higher strength increase than Minsc does from Crom and she is a pure fighter, meaning she could get higher than ++ if go you ToB later on.

Mazzy with the above described outfit is one hell of a tank. Give Minsc one of the many good twohanders in the game (silver sword maybe) and a long bow.
